Wayne Williams, age 93, died peacefully on Saturday, September 13, 2014, with his wife of 69 years, Beverly, by his side.
He was born September 28, 1920, in Vernal, Utah, to John Elias and Mary Ann Lords Williams. He was one of eleven brothers and sisters. They all preceded him in death.
Wayne served in World War II as a ball turret gunner. He didn't like to talk about his time in the service but there was no doubt he loved his country and his family was proud of his sacrifice and example. Wayne was a carpenter by trade and worked on several well-known buildings in Utah County including the Marriott Center. He also knew how to build or fix anything, mow a lawn to perfection and finish concrete like nobody's business.
Wayne married Beverly Marie Lewis on March 10, 1945. That was the best decision of his life. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Wayne and Beverly were never apart and could always be found holding hands. He loved her more than anything and thought she was the best cook and the most kind and beautiful woman in the world. Wayne was an avid and accomplished fisherman who would drive any distance to catch his limit. But his favorite part of fishing was sitting on the bank next to Beverly. She never complained and he was proud that she was his partner.
Wayne is survived by his wife, his three daughters who were the light of his life: Michelle (Mac) McKell, American Fork, Utah; ReNee (John) Clark Torrey, Utah; Kathryn (Jorma) Kirsi, American Fork, Utah and also 8 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Nothing made "Papa" happier than visits from his family.
Wayne leaves behind a legacy of love for each other, respect for what's important and pride in a job well done. Our lives are better because of him.
There will be a private graveside service for family held Friday, September 19, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Camp Williams. Please share a memory at andersonmortuary.com.
