Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Turana Kaye Durrant Cameron,
was born March 2, 1952, to Duane M and Helen Gardner Durrant. She passed from
this life on August 7, 2022.
Turana spent her childhood and teenage years in American Fork, Utah. In high
school she enjoyed marching with the band as part of the colorguard, and she was
yearbook editor her senior year. Following high school, Turana attended and
graduated from BYU with a degree in elementary education.
A gifted and compassionate teacher, Turana's skills, influence, and love blessed the
lives of students throughout Alpine District. From American Fork to Orem to Lehi
and up into Highland and Manila, she helped thousands of students gain
confidence and competency both as a classroom teacher and as a Title I reading
specialist. She was adept in guiding struggling students into pathways of success.
Many former students told Turana they became teachers because of her influence
on their lives-they wanted to be like her.
Early in her teaching career, Turana met and married a fellow staff member, Frank
Cameron and they had two wonderful children, John (Melissa) and Carissa (Brian)
Robinson. Their family enjoyed traveling and eventually visited every state in the
lower 48, as well as numerous picturesque beaches. The beach was Turana's
happy place. She and Frank were married for 40 years before he passed in 2018.
Turana was also a stepmother to Mark and Daniel.
Turana especially loved her precious grandchildren, Ryker, Kaysen, and Kaia. She
was always overjoyed when she was with them. She treasured times when she
could spoil them with meals after school, treats during sleepovers, and condo time
in Park City.
Turana also enjoyed being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints. She enjoyed getting to know people through visiting teaching and loved
teaching Relief Society. Throughout her life, Turana was very charitable towards
friends, neighbors, and service workers.
Services for Turana will be held Monday morning, August 15th. A viewing will take
place at Anderson and Sons Mortuary, 49 . 100 North, American Fork, at 9:45, with
a graveside service to follow at 11:00 in the American Fork City Cemetery.
