Sydney Thomas

Sydney Christine Nicholes Thomas, our amazing and loving Mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend returned to her Father in Heaven on May 17, 2019.

She was born on October 29, 1924 in American Fork, UT to Howard Wing Nicholes and Hope Hatton Andreasen . She was their oldest and only girl. She attended American Fork High School and then went to the University of Utah.

She married Ernest Miller Thomas on July 21, 1945, their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple on April 16, 1964.

Sydney attended the BYU and received her degree in 1965. She taught school in the Jordan School District for 20 years. After she retired she missed the classroom and the children so she substituted for several years. Then she found the American Fork Art Council and she volunteered for 23 years. She was very devoted to furthering the arts in American Fork. She loved every minute she spent working with the art council.  Sydney was a member of the ADK and  Junior Arletra.  She had many church calling and loved being with the youth. Sydney loved to crochet, embroider and read.

Sydney loved her family and knew what everyone was doing even her nieces and nephews. Each new grand child was a blessing to her she loved each and everyone of them.

Sydney is survived by her daughter Margaret (Robert) Wright, sons Ernest K (Carol) and Howard (Salonna) Thomas and son-in law Rick Oliver, 20 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and 14 great great grandchildren and 2 wonderful sister-in-laws.

Sydney was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Tracy, Doug, Frank, and Ross Nicholes, daughter Christine Oliver, 2 granddaughters Stephine and Tracee and 1 great great granddaughter Mayble.

Funeral services will be on May 23,2019  at  11:00 a.m. the American Fork 3rd Ward, 165 North 350 West American Fork, UT. A viewing will be held on Wednesday May 22, 2019 from 6-8pm at Anderson Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork and on Thursday prior to the services from 9:45-10:45 am at the church. Burial at the American Fork Cemetery. Please share a memory on our tribute wall.
