Stephen Douglas Purdy was born November 20, 1950, in Whittier, California, to John Tyler and Helen Bench Purdy. He passed away peacefully at home in Highland, Utah, on May 20, 2024.
He served a two-year mission in Guatemala for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He graduated magna cum laude with a degree in advertising from Brigham Young University in 1974. Stephen began working at Universal Studios in 1976 as a set painter. He was sealed to Edris Price in the Los Angeles, California Temple in 1980. During his 26 years at Universal, he worked in paint and production design on famous television shows and films such as Murder, She Wrote, The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, and Jurassic Park.
Stephen served as bishop of the Newbury Park 1st Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Newbury Park, California. He loved the church and loved serving.
He is survived by his loving wife, Edris, of almost 44 years; his three children, Tyler (Phylicia), Meghan (Christopher), and Susan; five grandchildren; his siblings, Richard (Lou), Michael (Jennifer), Roger, and Donna (Michael).
A viewing will be held Wednesday, May 22 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Anderson and Sons Mortuary, 6141 W 11000 N, Highland, Utah 84003.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 23 at 11:00 AM in the LDS Chapel at 10500 North Janie Lane, Highland, Utah 84003. A viewing will be held from 9:30-10:30 AM beforehand.
