Spencer Ken Nishimoto, 74, passed away on August 12, 2022, in Provo, Utah, surrounded by family and friends.
Spencer was born in Honolulu, Hawaii to Arthur Nishimoto and Grace
Dono Nishimoto. He graduated from De Anza High School and later attended
Ricks College (BYU Idaho) and Brigham Young University where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy.
Spencer was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was called to serve a mission in the Northern Far East mission and released from the Japan Okinawa mission. He treasured his mission and still met monthly with his mission friends and companions for their lunch date. It was very special to him when his oldest grandson was called to serve in Japan and had the privilege to meet the man he baptized many years ago.
While attending Brigham Young University he met the love of his life,
Sonja Ruth Hoeke. They were sealed for time and all eternity in The Provo
Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 18,
1974.
Spencer worked as a Recreational Therapist for The Utah State
Developmental Center for 33 years until retiring at the age of 59.
Spencer enjoyed fly fishing, golf, skiing and shooting. He learned to tie his own flies and reload ammunition. In his youth he loved baseball, surfing and dirt bike riding. He was always very active in outdoor activities. He was the coach of all coaches; always actively giving pointers and tips in just about every sport or activity he taught his children and grandchildren. Most of all he loved spending time with his family. You could almost always find Spencer at the top of the stands of a baseball game or running down the field of a football game of one of his beloved grandsons. He adored his family and loved them with an immeasurable capacity.
Spencer is survived by his wife Sonja Nishimoto, children, Brian Nishimoto, Jamie
(Jacob) Hofheins, grandchildren, (Tyson, Brecklyn, Logan and Grayson Hofheins), and siblings (Castle (Lee) Nishimoto, Ian (Kim) Nishimoto, Wells (Duvin) Nishimoto and Erin (Mark) Kailiponi). Spencer is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Grace Dono Nishimoto.
