Sophia Hernandez

Sophia Isabelle Hernandez passed away on May 14, 2020 after a tragic accident at Utah Lake. Sophia is survived by her father Jimmy Hernandez, her mother Mari Garcia-Hernandez, her brother Aaron Hernandez, her paternal grandmother Hermelinda Hernandez, her maternal grandmother Carmen Garcia, her maternal grandfather Manuel Garcia, her aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Sophia was born on February 1, 2003 in Mission Hills, California and was 17 years old when she passed away in Saratoga Springs, Utah.

She was a junior at Westlake High School in Utah. She was an active member of “Latinos in Action”. She was also a Kindergarten tutor at Brookhaven Elementary School.

Sophia had a beautifully radiant smile that she was very proud of. Her smile would light up any room she entered. She was referred to by her family as a “Social Butterfly” because of her love for butterflies and her ability to make friends wherever she went.

She aspired to attend the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and study Psychology, as she wanted to help others in various ways.

Sophia’s endless humor kept her family and friends in stiches. She loved to dance, sing and was a trendsetter, and wanted to be TikTok famous one day. She had a love for the beach and nature, and was extremely photogenic.

She was an advocate for other kids who felt left out or considered themselves outcasts. She was very giving to the less fortunate, and she loved animals. At one point, Sophia considered becoming a veterinarian.

Her bond with her parents and brother was unbreakable. Sophia was loved by so many and touched so many lives. Sophia will forever be in our hearts and will be forever missed.
