Sanford Buhler

Sanford Kay Buhler beloved father, grandfather, great-grand father and friend passed away, at the home of Larry & Jeanene, on February 22, 2025, at the age of 85, after a very courageous and valiant fight with cancer.

Sanford was born on March 12, 1939, in Highland, Utah, to loving parents, Alma and Hazel Buhler. He was the youngest of eleven children. He grew up in Highland, Utah, graduating from American Fork High School. He served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Northern States Mission. He was blessed to be able to serve with his brother Sylvan for part of his mission.

When Sanford returned from his mission, he met the love of his life while attending a "Golden Green Ball." He loved to dance. Sanford and Betty Jean (Hayes) Buhler were married in the Salt Lake Temple on November 20, 1961, for all time and eternity and were blessed with two children: Beverly (Garth) Masterson and Larry (Jeanene Garcia) Buhler.

He enjoyed all things with his family, working on cars, bowling, golf, fishing, motorcycle riding, camping, going out to eat, hunting, Jackson Hole, watching the Jazz and enjoying a good Diet Coke.

He held several callings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His favorite callings were when he served as the Ward Clerk and as the Baptism Coordinator. Sanford worked at 7-UP bottling Company, IML Trucking Company and Pepsi Bottling Company as a service manager. He was forced into retirement, at the age of 49, due to an Aortic aneurysm. He then became a team player with his wife running a daycare, until the passing of Betty Jean in 2010. He loved those children as if they were his own.

Sanford was a true warrior when it came to his health. He battled so long and hard with many different types of cancer. His family is very proud of his strength, courage, determination, braveness and especially the love he exhibited in his times of trials. Sanford was an avid Utah Jazz fan he would watch them play he recorded all the games so that he could rewatch them over and over. He also loved to watch crime shows, The Price is Right, and would say that if he was to get on the show he would win as he knew most of all the prices.

Sanford spent the last 10 years with Larry and Jeanene where they spent a lot of time together making memories with family vacations, cruises, camping and birthday parties. One memorable trip was in Jackson Hole Wyoming where we went river rafting and stayed in a town house. We went to his favorite dinners - The Bar J Wranglers - which reminded him of mom and how the two of them loved to go see the concert at the Bar J Wranglers. Sanford, mom and Jeanene would also love to take the grandkids in to the candy shop and tell them to fill up their buckets. It was expensive but as dad would say "It was worth every penny."

Sanford's true love was for his family. He is survived by his two children, seven grand-children and sixteen great-grand-children. Sanford is preceded in death by his wife, parents, ten siblings Lillie Day, Ruby Day, Evan Turner, Reuben Buhler, Herman Buhler, Elmer Buhler, Fred Buhler, Violet Allred, Lyman Buhler, Sylvan Buhler, and one grandchild. 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, located at 49 East 100 North, American Fork, Utah. Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing (Anderson & Sons Mortuary) Friday, February 28, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and viewing prior to the funeral from 9:45 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. Interment will follow at the American Fork Cemetery.
