Ryan Cheesman

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Ryan Simmons Cheesman of Alpine, Utah. Ryan passed away peacefully on November 12, 2024, surrounded by his beloved wife and children. In August of 2022, Ryan was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and began his courageous fight that lasted until his passing. Ryan was an absolute warrior as he battled countless rounds of chemo, surgeries, radiation, and hospital stays. Ryan was born on May 15, 1977, in Provo, Utah, to devoted parents, who nurtured his kindness, integrity, and a love for learning that would guide him throughout his life.

Ryan graduated from Mountain View High School in 1995, where he was known for his hardworking nature, athletic ability and being friendly to all. He was a star on the basketball team where he received many individual accolades and statewide recognitions. After high school, he attended and played collegiate basketball at Utah Valley University before transferring to Cornell University, where he earned a degree that set the stage for a successful career. He took great pride in his professional accomplishments, yet he remained humble and dedicated to serving others, whether in his career, church, family or community.

Ryan was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served a LDS mission to Kenya East Africa from 1996 to 1998. The people, culture, and beauty of Africa always held a special place in his heart, and he loved going back with Kamber to visit many times. He was instrumental in starting a business venture in Africa focused on helping the local economy and providing opportunities for the people there he had grown to love.

On December 2, 2006, Ryan married his sweet eternal companion, Kamber Childs, in the Salt Lake Temple. Their love is a shining example of devotion, built on the utmost respect, humor, and faith. Together, they have three beautiful children-Callan, Owen, and Evelyn-who were the light of Ryan's life. His role as a father was a source of immense pride, and he cherished every moment spent with his children, guiding them with wisdom, patience, and unconditional love.

Ryan was deeply compassionate and made lasting impressions on all who knew him. His kindness extended beyond his immediate circle, and he was always ready to lend a helping hand, whether through his professional work or in personal acts of service. He loved getting to know people.

In his free time, Ryan enjoyed playing golf, sports, spending time with friends, reading, watching movies and traveling with his family. He had an unwavering love for adventure, and his adventurous spirit was only surpassed by his love for his wife and children. Ryan had a great sense of humor, trademark laugh and contagious smile that lit up any room, and his ability to make others feel valued and cared for will be deeply missed.

Ryan is survived by his wife, Kamber; his children, Callan, Owen, and Evelyn; his mother Gail; his siblings and many extended family members and friends who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his father Ross.

Ryan's legacy of determination, courage, love, kindness, and unwavering faith will live on through the many lives he touched. He relied heavily on his relationship with his savior Jesus Christ and knowledge of eternal families to strengthen him throughout his final days. He will be forever remembered as a devoted husband, father, son, and friend, and his memory will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know him.

He will be loved and missed every day until we meet again.

To honor and remember Ryan, funeral services and ceremonies will be held in the coming days. A public viewing will take place at the Alpine Stake Center (98 E Canyon Crest Rd. Alpine, UT) on November 17, 2024, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm to allow friends and family to pay their respects. The following day, on November 18, 2024, another public viewing will take place at 9:45 am, leading up to the funeral service at 11:00 am at the same Alpine Stake Center building. The burial will be at 300 North Grove Drive in Alpine, UT immediately following the funeral services.
