Russell $ (Sheldon) Phillips, age 50, passed away on Friday, June 10, 2023. He was surrounded by his loving family after an incredibly valiant 3-year fight with cancer. His beautiful life will be cherished by all who knew him. Russell, you will be greatly missed. It's not the size of the man in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the man.
Russell was born on August 20, 1972 in Ogden, Utah to Spence Phillips and Elke Stokes Phillips. He grew up with a big brother (Ron) that helped him to find the love of cars. He loved the Corvette most of all. It was while he was young he found Marvel and DC movies and has been a giant fan ever since. He and Ron spent much of their time playing soccer, riding bikes, skiing and skipping school.
Russell married the love of his life, Jenny, on July 6, 1993. They were later sealed in the LDS Temple one year later. They soon welcomed Jake and Rebekah and their family became whole. They spent much of their time camping every summer in Logan Canyon and Russell and Jenny enjoyed bowling on leagues. His kids are everything to him and he loved spending time with them. He enjoyed family nights where they played games, watched sports or just hung out. Russell has many nieces and nephews who love and adore him. Russell always made a point to make each one of them feel special and know that they are loved. He spent many years perfecting the best pumpkin chocolate chip cookie. His recipe even won him an award for 2"° place at the fair. Russell made sure those amazing cookies were at every family party or get together. And nobody went home empty handed. Don't ask for the recipe, Russell swore the family to secrecy.
A few years into their lives together Russell and Jenny had the opportunity to move to Denver where Russell took a job with Bose. Don't let that fool you, he just wanted to be close to the Broncos and be able to attend games more easily. Here is where Russell excelled in his knowledge of the audio industry and grew in his talents. Several years later he started his own audio company with a very dear friend, Carlos. Precision Audio helped many of us to see and hear things more beautifully. Russell was able to see his dream of having a home theatre, which he designed, come true. Jake, with the help of many friends and family were finally able to complete their beautiful home theater just recently. He was, for a short time, able to hear and feel the rumbling of the jets in Top Gun and sit in the room he created. Russell finished his journey working for SSA Terminals as a Vessel Planner. As Russell was incredibly talented with programs and computers, he helped to automate many procedures for SSA. His knowledge and skills have helped in the overall design of how things are done. He made many wonderful friends who have become treasured family members. He always felt very fortunate to have loved what he did.
In 2021 Russell and Jenny met Kimberly, their daughter born in 1991. She was adopted by Steve and Barbara Stewart when she was born. Now they have an even larger and stronger family.
You could put a smile on Russell's face with the following: Dr. Pepper, Rock & Roll Music, Football, The Utah Jazz, Banbury Cross Doughnuts, Rodizio Grill dinners, jelly beans, brownies, anything from Chick-Fil-A or a shake from LaBeau's. As you can imagine vegetables were never on the menu. He didn't care for yardwork or hiking because those activities would make him spill his Dr. Pepper.
Preceded in death by: Grandparents; Spencer Saurey Phillips, Merl Wilford Stokes, Helga Lang Stokes, Marion Holmes Stokes, Uncles; Robert Stokes, Mikel Stokes, Brother-in-Law; Gene Loveless, Aunt and Uncle; Roger and Maureen Welsh, Cousin, Jennifer Phillips.
