The Light and Life of RoseAnn Hansen Gunther
August 21, 1941 - December 10, 2024
RoseAnn Hansen Gunther, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, and dedicated humanitarian, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2024, at her home in American Fork, Utah, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on August 21st, 1941, near Bingham Canyon, Utah, RoseAnn was the daughter of Harry Eldon Hansen and Vivian Brown. She was raised in a loving family with her siblings Eldon, Merrill, Owen, David, John, and Edith. The family later settled in American Fork, where RoseAnn spent her formative years.
On December 15, 1961, RoseAnn married her eternal companion, Dale Orville Gunther, in the Salt Lake Temple in a union marked by faith, love, and dedication. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising seven children: Russell (Chantel), Mary Miller (Bruce), Susan Christiansen (Brett), Philip (Holli), Bruce (Christina), Julie Rockwell (Porter), and Ruth Thompson (Ryan). RoseAnn and Dale opened their hearts and home to others they consider family including Ronald Begay, Harrison Bashone, Patricia William, Eugene Guerto, Marilyn Zilth, Fawn Ortiz, Pat Taylor, Shannon Murdock, Mildred Bramble, Genny Eddie Billie, Yvonne Gabler and other dear friends we call family. RoseAnn found immense joy in her role as a mother, bonus mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
RoseAnn served in several church callings in the Relief Society and Young Women's program. RoseAnn and Dale served as Senior Missionaries for 14 months at BYU Idaho from 2012- 2014.
Her commitment to service defined her life. In 1990, while RoseAnn was the Stake Young Women's President, she felt inspired to "busy their hands in service" and so she initiated a small project to make quilts for those in need, which later blossomed into other projects for a worldwide humanitarian mission. Under her leadership, over one million hygiene, newborn, and school kits were assembled and distributed to individuals and families in need across the globe. After Hurricane Katrina in 2005, her efforts led to the preparation of more than 70,000 hygiene kits in just four days.
RoseAnn's love for her community extended to education as well. She co-founded the American Fork Literacy Center, where children received one-on-one reading assistance, fostering a love for learning and growth.
In 2007, RoseAnn and Dale established the Launfal Foundation, a charitable foundation to fund the purchase of materials for humanitarian projects. After her retirement from the humanitarian service, she transferred the funds donated to another foundation which now continues the humanitarian work. RoseAnn and Dale then focused the Launfal Foundation on providing scholarships for single mothers in need which continues today.
Her life was one of faith, compassion, and action. RoseAnn's kindness and vision united communities and inspired individuals to join her in making the world a better place.
She is survived by her devoted husband Dale, her seven children, 40 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and a legacy of love and service that will endure for generations.
