Ronald Asay

October 11, 1948 — October 9, 2023

Ronald Thurman Asay passed away on the evening of October 9, 2023, surrounded by his wife and children. He was 74. Born October 11, 1948 in Lovell, Wyoming to Orson and Katherine Asay, Ronald was the second of three children.

Ron spent much of his childhood in the small town of Basin, Wyoming, and later moved with his family to Boswell, Indiana. There he attended Boswell High School as a gifted athlete, excelling at basketball, baseball, and track and field. Ron continued his athletic career into college, playing baseball for Indiana University and Oakland City College.

Ron then served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Los Angeles California Spanish speaking mission. After returning home, he attended Brigham Young University and soon met the lovely Debra Hyde. The two were later married in the Provo Utah Temple. He then became a protective Papa to his three children: Gerit, Brittani, and Kade.

Ron was a cowboy at heart with a love of old country western music and going target shooting with his collection of guns. With a passion for history, Ron could be relied on to regale his family with war stories while showing off his collection of model tanks. His quick wit and grand sense of humor was often accentuated by the latest dad joke he'd discovered, typically followed by the proud phrase, "you can use that." He had a great love for animals, especially his dogs and granddogs. He loved to shower his loved ones with thoughtful gifts, and had an affinity for collectables of all kinds. We love and miss you, Grandpa Gigi!

Ron is survived by his wife, Debra Asay; his three children, Gerit Asay, Brittani (Adam) Lambert, and Kade (Lisa) Asay; his brother, Carlos (Collette) Asay; and his 9 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Orson and Katherine Asay, and his sister, Shirley Eenigenburg.

An open house celebration of life will be held for Ron on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Cornerstone Technologies located at 1387 S 630 E St, American Fork, UT 84003 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. This will truly be a celebration of all Ron embodied.
