(affectionately known to his family as Papi)
age 79 of American Fork, Utah passed away on February 20, 2017 due to complications from a stroke.
He was born February 7, 1938 to Francis and Wanda Scholes in Logan, Utah. He grew up in Providence, Utah and attended Weber High and graduated from American Fork High.
After serving a Western States Mission, he graduated with a Masters Degree from Brigham Young University in Industrial Arts. There he met and married the love of his life, Virginia Brockbank in the Salt Lake Temple.
He taught industrial arts at Pleasant Grove Jr. High and math at American Fork Jr. High for 32 years. He was AEA president and led the negotiations team. He was a Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve, and served his country for 42 years.
He held many positions in the LDS church including Scouts, Young Mens, and Bishop.
He was an avid gardener, BYU sports fan, a craftsman, loved traveling and spending time with his family.
In retirement he was called on a mission with his wife to Cambodia where he was the Country Director of LDS Charities and gained a great love for the Cambodian people.
He was survived by his wife of 51 years Virginia, brother Tom Scholes (Rose), sister Loralie Wilson (Brent), sister-in-law Ruth Scholes and 5 children; Kimberli Waugh (Paul), Wendi Bailey (Matt), Robert B. Scholes (GayLyn), Cynamon Freeman (Kyle), Tyson M. Scholes (Allison). He also was the proud grandpa to 18 grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Wanda, brother John Scholes and one grandchild James Tyson Scholes.
Viewing will be held at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North American Fork, on Friday, February 24, 6:00- 8:00pm and the Funeral will be Saturday, February 25th at the American Fork 38th ward building 2433 W. 450 S. Pl. Grove, UT 84062 at 2:00pm with viewing 1 hour prior.
