Our beloved Scott passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. By Scott's side was his wife Sherry, his daughters Amber (Xiao Ye) and Brandi, his brother John, his sister Amy and his nephew Bobby. Scott was born in Dallas, Texas and raised in Allen, Texas until his early teenage years when most of his family, including Scott, moved to Singapore where Scott spent most of his adolescent years.
Scott married Sherry Lynn Davis on January 28, 1995 in Atlanta, Georgia. They were married for 30 years and were blessed with 2 beautiful daughters. Scott and Sherry adopted both girls from China when they were 9 months old, saying over and over that the girls are probably more loved than a blood child.
Scott worked as a chemical engineer at Texas Instruments in Lehi, Utah. Scott was more than his occupation and was known for his love of music, football, movies and cooking. During his free time Scott would volunteer for FIRST LEGO competitions and speed skating.
On January 14th, 2024 Scott underwent a dual lung transplant surgery that saved his life. During his recovery, he had become his best self in years, but then he got COVID 19. The transplant team did everything they could, however none of the treatments worked. Scott's cause of death was rapidly progressive rejection with resistance to all treatments.
He is survived by his loving wife Sherry Lynn Davis Holmes, his daughter Amber (Xiao Ye) Holmes and Brandi Holmes, his mother Bettye Holmes, his brother John Holmes and his sisters Amy Holmes and Beth Alonzo.
Scott was preceded in death by his father Robert Holmes and brother Patrick Holmes.
Scott will be known for his wise words that were laced with humor and for his kind heart that affected many lives.
In lieu of flowers the family asks to instead make donations to the University of Utah lung transplant research program.
In honor of Scott's wishes, viewings will take place on March 6 from 6-8 PM and March 7 from 5:45- 6:45 with a funeral service following the viewing on March 7. All services will be held at Anderson & Sons Mortuary located at 49 East 100 North in American Fork, Utah.
