Robert Grant

August 6, 1942 — January 8, 2025

In loving memory of Robert Lothair Grant, who graced our lives from August 6, 1942, until January 8, 2025, at the age of 82. Bob was born in Red Oak, Iowa, and spent most of his life teaching high school in Southern California. Upon retirement in 2007, he moved to American Fork, Utah. He loved his American Fork neighbors, friends and ward members. Bob was a beloved son, brother, uncle, teacher, and friend.

Bob was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission from 1961 to 1963 in the Northwestern States Mission and loved attending the Mt. Timpanogos Temple.

A proud alumnus of Brigham Young University, Bob earned bachelors and masters degrees in history. Bob lived in Pasadena and Sherman Oaks, California where he taught European and AP history classes. He especially enjoyed the many years he taught at Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks. A number of his former Notre Dame students have gone on to successful careers in entertainment and professional sports.

Bob loved to travel and made 26 summer vacation trips to Europe, often leading student tours that included his nieces and nephews. He loved all of Europe but especially enjoyed Germany. He also traveled to China, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, Jordan and many other countries.

Many will remember Bob for his remarkable memory and ability to recall details of each overseas trip and the scores and play by play details of recent and long-ago BYU football and basketball games, for which he had a passion.

Bob is survived by his brother Michael (Chris) Grant of Las Vegas, his sister Janie (Walt) Hick of Laguna Hills, California, and 9 nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents.

As we say goodbye to Bob, let us remember him not with sadness, but with the joy he brought into our lives. His spirit will forever live on in our hearts, guiding us to keep exploring, learning, and sharing the love he so generously gave.
