Ray Pollmann

Our loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, and dear Friend unexpectedly returned to the arms of his Heavenly Parents on January 1, 2021.

Ray was born on February 5, 1949 in Ogden, Utah to Donald and Jorma Pollmann.  He was raised in Lindon and loved all the adventures (and trouble) he was involved in with his brothers, cousins, and friends while growing up.   He spent most of his adult life in Pleasant Grove.  Anyone who has spent any time in Pleasant Grove likely had the privilege of being greeted by his warm smile, funny jokes, big hugs, and kindness in one form or another.  Everybody loved Ray!  He was proud of the fact that he was an Eagle Scout and that he was   awarded the rank of Eagle Scout the same evening as his brothers Ed and Steve. He attended Pleasant Grove High School where he was involved in track, baseball, band, and student government. He graduated in 1967 and was sealed to his high school sweetheart, Anne Fugal, in the Salt Lake Temple, on September 19, 1968.  They were happily married for 51 years.  After Anne’s passing, he married Patty Franklin on December 1, 2020.

After completing high school, Ray enlisted in the United States Air Force Reserves and later the Utah Air National Guard.  He proudly served our country for 23 years and retired with the rank of Master Sergeant.  A highlight of his military career was visiting multiple countries for various trainings, assignments, and camps. He particularly loved his time in Guam, Germany, Spain, and Hawaii.  It was especially memorable for Ray that he was able to serve for one year alongside his son, Nathan.

Ray’s professional life was spent in the banking industry.  He worked for Mountain View Bank, First Security, American Savings and Loan, Key Bank, and Zions Bank.  He held positions such as loan officer, branch manager, private banker, and senior vice president heading sales and service teams for all Key Bank’s Utah branches.  He forged many relationships with fellow employees and customers alike.  He excelled in this industry because of his dedication, personal touch, and charm.

He was active in the community and enjoyed serving.  He was the President of the Utah Chapter of Sertoma, a board member of the Utah Valley Chamber of Commerce and Utah AIDS Foundation, and a chaplain at the American Fork Hospital.

He loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and served willingly in many callings.  He especially loved the time he spent as the bishop of a BYU student ward.  He brought his warm personality and firm testimony into all his callings which included serving in the Provo Missionary Training Center Branch Presidency, High Council, Elders Quorum President, Primary worker and so on.

Ray was an avid sports fan, especially when it included cheering on one of his grandkids.  He was found at their baseball, basketball, football, dance, cheer, and swim events.  He loved BYU Cougar sports and held football and basketball season tickets for years.  He loved the road trips he took with many of his children and grandkids to football bowl games and Major League Baseball games.  He also enjoyed playing golf.  He spent a lot of time on the course with clients, but particularly loved playing with his brothers, sons, and grandsons.  One of his most passionate hobbies was Family History work.  He spent years in the genealogical libraries pouring over microfilm, microfiche, documents, and later swapping floppy disks and searching the internet. He also traveled to the Midwest and Germany to meet with distant relatives, examine headstones, study vital records, and research family names.  He spread his love of Family History by mentoring many people and sharing[KP1]  his research.

He will be loved and remembered always.  We knew he loved us.  He showed us generously whether that was with a phone call, treat drop off, supporting an important event, a big hug, nice words, or the occasional inappropriate joke.  Ray was an example of kindness.  He was kind to everyone he met and always had a twinkle in his eyes.

Ray was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Anne; father, Donald Pollmann; father and mother-in-law, Jean and Maxine Fugal; brother, Ed Pollmann; and brother-in-law, Jean Paul Fugal.  He is survived by his wife, Patty Pollmann; his mother and stepfather, Jorma & Ben Johnson; siblings: Steven (Shauna) Pollmann, David (Janie) Pollmann, Alan (Roxanne) Pollmann; children: Nathan (Lezlee) Pollmann, Andrea (Bradley) May, Jacob (Kallee) Pollmann, Bradley (Cyndi) Pollmann, Melissa (Nathan) Kelly, twenty-one adoring grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren on the way.

A viewing will be held Monday, January 11 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork. An additional viewing will be held on January 12 at the North Field 2nd Ward building, 105 West 1800 North, Pleasant Grove from 9:45am to 10:45 am with funeral services beginning at 11:00 am.
