Patricia Cherry

January 31, 1945 — January 26, 2025

Patricia Ann Casey Cherry, age 79, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2025, in Highland, Utah. Patricia was born on January 31, 1945, in Price, Utah to Eddie and Pearl Casey.

Patricia happily spent her childhood in Helper, Utah where she took lunches to her dad in the nearby rail yard, played with her favorite Saucy Walker Doll, and learned to sew. Patricia and her brother, Gerald, decided to take out a window in the side of their home so their father could replace it with a large picture window that showcased the nearby Book Cliffs. She painted her mother's kitchen lilac and made matching curtains as a young teen. In high school Patricia became quite talented at clothing construction and won awards for her submissions.

In the 9th grade, Patricia famously called out to a cute boy, "Hey, Cherry!" while riding the school bus home. That cute boy was named Francis Cherry and that shout-out changed her life forever. Patricia later married Francis in the Manti Utah Temple on September 2, 1966, on her beloved grandmother's birthday.

After graduating from Carbon High School, Patricia attended the College of Eastern Utah where she graduated with her associates degree. They both attended Brigham Young University where she earned a Bachelor of Art degree in Home Economics in 1967.

Upon graduation from BYU, Francis's work took them to Vernal, Utah where she welcomed two sons - Jonathan and Russell. From there they moved to Wisconsin where MaryAnn joined the family. They then moved to Denver, Colorado where David was born.

Fran's work also took the family to live in Herndon, Virginia; Roswell, New Mexico; Billings, Montana; Anchorage, Alaska; and Haymarket, Virginia before they retired to Highland, Utah in 2005. No matter where the family lived, Patricia filled each home with happiness, love, and custom drapes. She maintained lasting relationships with friends no matter where she lived. Everyone who knew her loved her.

While she worked teaching school and crafting custom draperies, her life's mission was building a strong family. Patricia's love for Francis superseded everything else in her life. It was that service to her husband that became her legacy of love. As Fran's biggest champion, she believed and encouraged him to accomplish his aspirations. Patricia's love and patience during Fran's dementia journey was an inspiring example of their eternal love.

Patricia was an involved and busy wife, mother, and grandmother. She was never one to stand out in a crowd but always present for those she loved. Patricia loved her children and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She gathered her family together whenever she could. Each grandchild was her favorite. They affectionately called her "Gooma" and loved the dresses, costumes, quilts, and turtle sleeping bags she sewed for her them. She kept everyone supplied with their favorite treats and loved them by noticing the small details.

Patricia is survived by her brothers: Gerald (Jean) Casey, and Gordon (Merrilyn) Casey; children: Jonathan (Ann Marie) of Whitehall, Montana; MaryAnn (Justin) Jones of American Fork, Utah; David (Brooke) of Highland, Utah; and daughter-in-law Colleen Duncan Cherry of Billings, Montana. Her grandchildren include Meagan (Ben) Nielsen of Belgrade, Montana; Bridger (Katie) Cherry of Lehi, Utah; Hunter (Nicole) Cherry of Smithfield, Utah; Joshua (Hannah) Cherry of Taylorsville, Utah; Madison (Brian) Frantz of Cedar Hills, Utah; Morgan (Josh) McMullan of Vandenberg SFB, California; Emily (Brayden) Giles of Provo, Utah; Hannah (David) Esguerra of Springville, Utah; Marley Jones and J. Mitchell Jones of American Fork, Utah; and Harper Hudson of Highland, Utah. Patricia has seven great-grandchildren with three more joining the family soon. Patricia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Francis, her parents, Eddie and Pearl Casey, sister, Kathryn Hill, son, Russell Cherry, and grandson, Taylor Jones.
