Eleanor Patricia “Pat” (Barnes) Martin, 84, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at the home she shared with her daughter’s family in American Fork, UT. She was born on August 4, 1937 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Frank and Helen Charlotte (Parker) Barnes. When she was born she already had two half sisters and a half brother from her parent’s earlier marriages. They all grew to be very close throughout their lives. Pat grew up in Salt Lake City spending her youth attending and being very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She graduated from East High School and attended a year at the University of Utah.
Pat’s first marriage to her children’s father produced five beautiful children, four sons and a daughter. She was a wonderful mother to each of them all her life and they were her world, as were her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
On June 14, 1983 Pat married the love of her life, James Donald “Jim” Martin at Lake Tahoe Wedding Chapel, Stateline, Nevada. Together they made their home in Elko and Boulder City, Nevada. Although married only five years, their time together before Jim suddenly died, were filled with the happiest of days.
In 1975-1988 Pat owned and operated a state certified day care. Between 1988 and 2015 Pat was employed by the Jordan School District at Copper Hills High School working in food services & summer locker cleaning. She received the District’s award for longest employed in that capacity at the school after working twenty-seven years.
Pat had many talents, interests and activities she was involved with all her life. During the years she was having her children she was in a bowling league and bowled up until each one of the children were born. She made lovely counted cross stitch, knitted and crocheted treasures that are keepsakes to those who are lucky enough to have received such gifts. She found solace and relaxation in doing dishes and folding the laundry and reveled in a good board game or playing rummikub with her family. Always up for a trip to Southern California to see her sister’s families and go to the one place where she had the time of her life, was trips to Disneyland…her favorite place.
She had a warm and happy personality with many who loved and adored her. Pat was most thoughtful her entire adult life in remembering to send everyone of her family, including all her nieces and nephews, a birthday card. All will miss that special wish from her in their future. Her ever-present sense of humor and wonderful laugh will be remembered always. Family was everything to her as was her love of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Pat is survived by the five Jensen children: Gordon (Shelly) of Weston, MO, Mark (Tina) of Colorado Springs, CO, Linda Hardy (Richard) of American Fork, Kelly, Dan (Becky) of Layton, UT. Also she leaves twelve grandchildren and ten great grandchildren with two more arriving in February and September. Included are her many nieces, nephews and their families who will miss her deeply.
Preceded in death are Pat’s parents, husband, James Martin, half sisters, Donna (Barnes) Beals and Helen Jeanne (Morriss) Stanworth, half brother Michael Fowler Barnes and partner, Frank Murphy. Included is the father of her children and daughter-in-law, Rebecca (Moody) Jensen.
