Nolan Howes

March 21, 1933 — January 29, 2015

Our beloved husband and father, Nolan Dale Howes, passed away peacefully at home in American Fork, Utah, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 21, 1933, in Monroe, Utah, to Arnold and Ruby Conder Howes. Nolan was the oldest of 4 children. He married the love of his life, Daisy Darling Hale, on June 1, 1953, in Ruth, Nevada. Their marriage was solemnized in the St. George, Utah, LDS Temple on April 13, 1955.
Dad served his country during the Korean Conflict. He returned home to Ruth where he worked for Kennecott, completing a machinist apprenticeship and working as a machinist leadman for 30 years. Dad retired from Kennecott in 1980 and after retiring used his carpenter skills in a construction business with his brother Doyle. He later worked for White Pine County School District where he retired as the maintenance man. Dad was a hard worker and taught his children the value of a good day's work.
Dad spent his life faithfully serving in leadership positions of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, including bishoprics and stake presidencies, but his favorite callings were teaching the 11 year old scouts and the High Priests. Dad helped so many people along the way but never wanted any recognition. He was a humble man, loved by all who knew him.
Nolan and Daisy moved to American Fork, Utah, in July of 2014, but to Dad, home was always in Ruth.
Nolan is survived by his beloved wife Daisy; children, Alan, Lynda(Craig), Scott(Erika), Cheryl(Brent), Janet(Ron), Mark, Eric(Debra), Lisa(Nathan), Lori; 25 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; brother, Doyle Howes; sister, Orva Thomas, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Ruby and brother, Billy.
Mom and family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Access Hospice, especially Lindsey and Jordan, and to the VA Hospital for their great care of Dad during his illness.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 29, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the American Fork 12th Ward, 673 East 300 North. A viewing will be held Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork and Thursday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Burial will be in American Fork Cemetery.
