Miriam Wood

October 12, 1980 — December 10, 2024

Miriam Joy (Moody) Wood was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on October 12, 1980, the youngest of four children to Greg and Kristina Moody.

Miriam had an idyllic childhood and adolescence raised in a fun-loving family. As a child, her days were filled with imaginary play with her best friend and older sister, Rachel. She was also fortunate enough to enjoy the companionship of genuine, lifelong friends. She was taught by amazing teachers at Sierra Vista Elementary School, Taylor Middle School, Valley, and Cibola High Schools, and graduated in 1999 from Cibola High School.

Her deep love for the beauty and mystery of the natural world can be traced to the gift of being raised near the majestic Río Grande Bosque as an extension of her childhood backyard playground. In addition, her parents made a special effort to go on camping trips and spent lengthy summer getaways at the rustic Johnson family cabin, befittingly christened "Heritage Hermitage", as well as other various trips to mountainous and outdoor destinations of rest and recreation.

Miriam attended Brigham Young University in Provo, UT from 1999-2004 and graduated with a BS in Elementary Education and a minor in Spanish. Miriam taught for two and half years in the Utah public school system at Midvale Elementary School (1st grade) and North Star Elementary (6th grade).

Miriam was a faithful follower of her Savior, Jesus Christ, using the scriptures and other divinely inspired texts to help point her toward her loving Heavenly Parents. Her membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was an important part of her life and spiritual development. She willingly served in various callings within the church. She delighted in procuring Truth, bearing no prejudice to its source. She served a Spanish-speaking mission in the California San Jose Mission from 2002-2003, where she made longtime friends and deepened her devotion to and connection with Divine Love.

After a fateful blind date with Nick Wood in February of 2007, there was an obvious soulmate connection that was instant and deep. The two were sealed for time and all eternity in the Albuquerque, NM LDS Temple on June 15, 2007. Their loving connection only grew deeper through their 17 years of marriage. Their motto was "Forever Newlyweds", and as such, they were often mistaken for a twitterpated, recently married young couple. Their union of perfect love created an inclusive home for their four talented and energetic children; Allison Rebecca, Daymion Samuel, Magdelaine K, and Elizabeth Marie. Miriam delighted in their beautiful and precious children and told them often that she was the luckiest mom ever to end up with the best kids in the entire world. Nick and Miriam enjoyed creating memories and meaningful experiences with their children and with each other through traveling, hiking and spending time in nature, exercising, eating and cooking delicious food, reading together, watching movies and live shows. Most recently, a lot of intentional hard work as a family went into the efforts to create an oasis of a home filled with peace and beauty after moving from American Fork to Highland. She was so proud to have had a part in the efforts that it took to support Nick and his partners to help create and build their successful bootstrapped company, JobNimbus. Miriam considered being a wife and mother the crowning privileges of her lifetime and devoted all her energies to enriching her relationships with her immediate family. Miriam's deepest hope is that they never forget that she loves them so much to pieces.

Miriam had a deep love for reading and the acquisition of new intellectual concepts. She loved the arts in all forms. Her drive for cultivating creativity was channeled in a variety of ways, from conventional to unconventional. Humor was an important part of Miriam's life, and finding a chance to laugh always helped ease tension or anxiety, even if she was just laughing at herself. She was filled with optimism and hope, which helped to carry her through the darkest moments.

Owing to her genetic disease of Osteogenesis Imperfecta as well as the diagnosis of Triple Negative Breast Cancer in the fall of 2022, she had empirical knowledge of the truth that Our Heavenly Parents are bound to abide by the law of agency, even at the cellular level. In addition, she had countless opportunities to learn the truth that life challenges are not a battle with winners or losers. Rather, that life happens *for* us, not *to* us. Miriam tried her best to honor her true self and not to become a diagnosis or a victim.

Miriam enjoyed stepping into the second half of life. She worked hard in deepening her roots into the nuances of both learning and applying universal laws, which aided her in crossing into the liminal space of middle age. She only wished she had had more time to enhance this knowledge and create additional opportunities to apply these lessons deeply within herself and in her family relationships.

She is preceded in death by her older sister and best friend, Rachel Moody. She is survived by her devoted husband, children, parents, Greg and Kristina Moody (Albuquerque, NM), her oldest sister, Anna Slighting (Las Vegas, NV), older brother Matthew Moody (Rio Rancho, NM), mother in law, Kayleen Lanoy (Lehi, UT), brother and sister in law, Jason and Cathy Wood (Lehi, UT), brother in law, Drew Lanoy (Lehi, UT), and 13 phenomenal nieces and nephews.

Sincerest gratitude for the outpouring of love and care from extended family, new and former neighbors, dear friends near and far, and her attentive medical teams at both Revere Health Oncology and Huntsman Cancer Hospital.
