Maxine Rowley

Maxine (Mackie) Moon Rowley passed away peacefully on October 27, 2016 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born on December 23, 1934 in Mesa, Arizona to Harold K Moon and Ellen Dewitt Moon, and grew up on farms in Arizona and Idaho.
She learned to drive as a young teenager on the family farm, and always took great pride in that skill. When she entered Lincoln High school after her family moved to Orem, Utah she encountered two of her true loves in one class when she met her sweetheart and future husband, Carl Rowley, while auditioning for choir. Mackie loved music and sang in a very popular trio all through high school, and later she was part of the BYU Program Bureau (precursor to the BYU Young Ambassadors). Mackie also performed on the drill team as a Tigerette and loved watching Carl play sports for Lincoln High.
Mackie and Carl married in the Salt Lake temple on November 10, 1954 and welcomed their first son, Creig in 1956, and over the next fourteen years they added Steve, LeeAnn, Russell, Kathleen and Val. Throughout their married life Mackie and Carl lived in California and Utah, and traveled to Mexico, Canada, England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, the Caribbean and all around the United States.
Mackie especially loved vacations that involved spending time with her large extended family and enjoyed very close relationships with her brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws. The more people who could attend a party, the better. Mackie was famous for her loud laugh, hilarious impressions, masterful storytelling, spectacular whistling and glamourous sunglasses. She was a skilled decorator and took pride in both her beautiful yard and the fact that she didn't really have to do any of the yard work.
As season ticket holders for both BYU football and basketball, Carl and Mackie rarely missed a game. She loved the university and sported an extensive BYU inspired wardrobe in support of Carl's alma mater and her employer. Mackie worked for the BYU Health Center for over 20 years.
She adored her grandkids, and they all knew it. She was able to hand crochet blankets for many of the grandchildren, and every one of them felt her special love and attention and learned how to have fun by following her example.
Mackie was a devoted and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She loved the gospel and served in many callings throughout her lifetime including in Relief Society and Primary presidencies. She and Carl were called to serve as ordinance workers in the Mount Timpanogas temple before her declining health forced her to stop, but she felt the importance of the work and had joy in her service.
Maxine is preceded in death by her parents, three siblings, her son Steve, her son Russ, and her daughter-in-law, Lori. She is survived by her husband Carl, their children Creig (Laurie); LeeAnn (Dean) Payne; Kathleen (Jim) Francis; Val (Merilee) and two daughters-in-law: Mary Rowley and Tamara Rowley; as well as 25 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 11:00am at the Grove Creek Stake Center, 1176 North 730 East Pleasant Grove, Utah. Visitors are welcome Tuesday evening, November 1 from 6:00 - 8:00 or Wednesday morning from 9:45 - 10:45 at the same address. Interment will be immediately following the services at the Orem City Cemetery.
