Mary Lou Nicholes

November 5, 1929 — August 17, 2022

Mary Lou Devey Nicholes passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2022 in American Fork, UT from causes incident to age.

Born November 5, 1929, in American Fork, to E.H. and Ida Devey, Mary Lou had a wonderful childhood. She grew up close to many family members and received love from them all. She graduated from American Fork High School in 1948, and with a scholarship she had earned, attended Brigham Young University studying Clothing and Design.

Mary Lou and her husband, Douglas Nicholes, knew each other from childhood. Their first date was to American Fork's Jr. Prom. They were married May 2, 1952 in the Salt Lake City Utah temple. Doug and Mary Lou's marriage was full of respect and love. They devotedly cared for each other for the 62 years they were together on the earth.

Mary Lou was a disciple of Jesus Christ, and a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served actively in all the auxiliaries and was continually ministering to those around her. She enjoyed her time volunteering at Temple Square, working at the Mt. Timpanogos Utah temple, and serving a mission with her husband in Washington D.C.

Mary Lou raised her four children with patience and kindness. She was a constant support to them and her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her many gifts, including making her home a safe and holy place for loved ones to gather, her astute awareness and concern of others' feelings, and her quickness to express love.

Mary Lou was dear to her husband and honored by her children. The influence she had on her posterity will be in effect for years to come.

Mary Lou is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Douglas. She is survived by her sons Douglas D. Nicholes and Richard (Danette) Nicholes, daughters Anne (Floyd) Huxford and Lisa (Blair) Waldron, 14 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren and by her sister Beverly Littlefield.

Funeral services will be held August 27 at 12:00pm in the American Fork Hillcrest Stake Center, 165 N 350 W, American Fork, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral from 10:00-11:30am. Interment will be in the American Fork Cemetery.
