Mary Walton Barratt passed away on Monday, December 1, 2014 at the age of 96, at the Charleston in Cedar Hills, Utah. She was born September 2, 1918 in American Fork, Utah to Joseph Franklin and Mrytle Greenwood Walton. She enjoyed a rich family life with her three brothers, Max, Dick, and Kaye. She completed her elementary, Junior and Senior High Education levels, going onto graduate from Utah State University with a major in elementary education. She married her childhood friend and sweetheart, Harry E. Barratt on December 17, 1941. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. World War II separated them for 3 ½ years. After a joyful reunion, their family took shape and six children were born to this union: Marcia Ann (LeGrande Smith), Jane (Clint Baty), Thomas Harry (Jane Alexander), Rebecca (Mark Hales), Mary Jo (Glen Matthews), and Julie (Mike Lewis), adding 30 grandchildren, and 67 great grandchildren. Mary was a dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker, later teaching elementary education for 24 years at the Lehi Elementary School in Lehi, Utah. She was active in the LDS Church, serving in the Sunday School, Primary, and Mutual and Relief Society. She taught 4-H, loved to play golf, loved to square dance and was a fierce competitor in the card game of bridge. She loved to travel with her husband in their motor home throughout the United States and Canada. They traveled with friends to Hawaii and Europe. They enjoyed America Fork Canyon in their summer cabin at Tibble Fork. She devoted many hours as a Pink Lady at the AF Hospital.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, her siblings, Max Walton and Dick Walton, and grandson Mitchell Lewis.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 8, 2014 at the American Fork 4th Ward Chapel, 455 East 300 North, with a viewing from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral. Please share a memory at andersonmortuary.com.
