Lynn Keith Pulley passed away peacefully in his home on February 9, 2023, in American Fork, Utah at the age of 87. He was surrounded by his family throughout his final days, especially his wife Laverne, who also lovingly cared for him through the many years of his battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Lynn was born in American Fork, Utah to Albert Pulley and Myrtle Groo Pulley on December 28, 1935. He grew up there and graduated from American Fork High School. Following his graduation, Lynn served more than two years as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Northern States Mission. Two months after his return, he married the love of his life, Laverne Thornton, on July 25, 1958 in the Manti Temple.
As a young adult, he served in the National Guard Reserve for the United States of America. Meanwhile, he trained as a shoe repairman. In 1967, Lynn and Laverne opened up their first shoe repair shop in Orem, Utah. In 1974, they sold the Orem shop and opened American Fork Shoe Repair. Later they added the figurine business in 1983. The shop became a place where their children and grandchildren learned the value of hard work and service while creating lifelong memories with them.
Lynn “saved soles, and some heels too,” for more than 50 years. He was cherished by the community for his kindness, generosity, and soft-spoken manner. Lynn would often be found asking only for a smile as payment for his work. Lynn retired, before he wanted to, at age 75 due to some complications of Parkinson’s. He loved his work.
Lynn served diligently within his callings in both ward and stake. He would often be found at 5 a.m. beginning his days with prayer and scriptures. He was a true scriptorian. He was a spiritual giant who was a great source for guidance, courage, and spiritual strength. He testified of his love for the Savior in everything he did.
He enjoyed telling stories, jokes, and sharing his testimony. He also enjoyed fishing, exploring, bird watching, reading, and had a love for the English language. Most of all, he loved spending time with family.
Lynn is survived by his wife, Laverne; siblings, Lael Ballentyne and Groo Pulley; and his children, Rebecca Marden, Keith Pulley, Angela (Jade) Lewis, Dell (Shannon) Pulley, and Ted (Ann) Pulley. Lynn also leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Lynn is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Wendell Pulley and Robert Pulley.
