Lucille Garrett

July 15, 1925 — November 1, 2005

Lucille Richards Preston Garrett
Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother passed away peacefully at home of natural causes. She was born to Guy Smith Richards and Roxie Cornell Adams on July 15, 1925 in Lehi, UT. She married Merrill R. Preston August 19, 1947. After Merrill's passing she married Dean R. Garrett July 15, 1977 and he passed away November 2005.
Lucille was an inspiring school teacher for 33 years and was employed by Alpine School District. She primarily taught kindergarten and first grade at Harrington and Shelley Elementaries and many students remember her as the teacher that gave them the gift to read. After retiring she was a dedicated temple worker at the Provo and Mt Timpanogos Temple for 17 years.
The primary focus of Lucille's life was her family. Her home was always open and everyone was welcome there. She had a way of making everyone feel special and valued.
She is survived by her children: William R. (Debbie) Preston, MeriLu (Jeff) Mills, Cathleen (Terry) Draper, Diane (Robert) Richards and Kim Fox. Step-children: Julie (Greg) Witwer, Barbara (Kent) Richards, Dean Garrett, Claranne Duke (Gordon Garrett's wife) and Albert Schmuhl (Suzanne Schmuhl's husband), 22 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; 26 step-grandchildren, 92 great step-grandchildren, 24 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Guy A. Richards and infant brother Joseph Richards, 3 sisters, Mildred Dyer, Shirley Garrett and Donna Nielson; Husbands Merrill Preston, Dean Garrett, and stepchildren Suzanne Schmul, Gordon Garrett, and Lewis Garrett.
A special thanks to all who lovingly cared for Lucille in her final days, Sylvia Ashby, Visiting Angels (Jim & Tami Ure), and Dignity Hospice.
