Luana Searle

October 5, 1929 — December 27, 2023

Dr. Luana Jane Greenwood Searle passed away peacefully at home on December 27, 2023, after a short period of declining health. Luana was born October 5, 1929, to Aaron J and Jennie V Jones Greenwood on a small farm in American Fork. She grew up during the depression and came of age during the second World War.

She met her sweetheart, Lee Kent Searle, while in high school. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 9, 1948. Kent started a dairy farm with his brother while she worked to help support the family. Several years later they had two sons, Lee and Craig, and built a new home in American Fork.

Luana attended Brigham Young University where she earned a PhD in Education Administration. She worked for Alpine School District as a teacher, principal, and administrator. After retiring, she worked an additional 25 years as the Director of the Utah State Elementary Principals Association, finally retiring at age 89.

She and Kent also built a successful business in apartment and office rentals, her sons later joining the business. She was actively involved in this business until the time of her death.

She was very family-oriented, and she loved to spend time with her sister, Carol, and many cousins, in-laws, friends, and extended family.

She and her husband loved to travel and socialize with many great friends. They were doing different activities all the time. They had traveled all around the world, but most of all she loved to spend time in American Fork Canyon.

Luana is survived by her sons, Lee (Louise), Craig (Cheryl); seven grandchildren, David (Kim), Aaron (Ally), Nathan (Kyli), Marcus (Stephanie), Clayton, Jennie (Jason), and Kristen (Chase), and ten great-grandchildren with one on the way. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 4, 2023, at 11:00 am in the American Fork 33rd Ward chapel, 1340 North 100 East American Fork.
