Lorene Savage Killsnight, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, passed away Oct. 14, 2024 at age 60 after a long battle with cancer.
Lorene was born Feb. 17, 1964 in Monument Valley, Utah on the Navajo Reservation to Louise Mann and Charlie Savage. As a teenager, Lorene moved to Salt Lake City, becoming a foster daughter to Bob and Mary Edwards and a forever member of their family. She attended West High School where she was proud to be part of the pep club. She graduated in 1983. She married Dalroy Larry Killsnight, a U.S. Army Ranger and carpenter. They had 3 children, Michael, Shawn, and Matthew. Family favorite activities included rodeos, camping, and spending time with Dalroy’s parents and family. Over the years, Lorene worked at many jobs to support her family, but her focus was always on caring for her sons. Dalroy died in 2015.
Lorene, known as Shima’ (Mom in Navajo), liked making Navajo fry bread and Navajo tacos for her family. Her pride and joy were her sons and their families. She especially loved being a grandmother to Jazmine Layla, Amaria, and Mateo Junior. She maintained a close relationship with her large family of brothers, sister, cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as with her many Edwards foster family members. She loved hanging out with family and friends at birthday and holiday parties. Lorene had many interests. She really enjoyed traveling, shopping (even window shopping!), and having her nails done. She was a big football fan in general, but the Broncos were her favorite. Spending time with Lorene was a delight. She had a rare fun sense of humor, unexpected because of her natural shyness. Her family will always remember her loving heart and kind soul.
Lorene is survived by her sons, Michael (Susie), Shawn, and Matthew (Salena) Killsnight, her grandchildren Jazmine Layla, Amaria, and Mateo Junior Killsnight, her sister Irene (William) Mackey, her brothers Howard and Raymond Savage, her foster family siblings Sherry Kramer, Bob (Denise) Edwards, John (Shawna) Edwards, Cathy (Rod) Beckstead, and Mary Sue (Andy) Floisand, plus many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at the Utah Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park, 17111 South Camp Williams Road in Bluffdale, Utah. Burial arrangements by Anderson and Sons Mortuary, American Fork.
Following the service, a luncheon and memorial gathering will be held at Lone Tree 1st Ward, 1953 E. Lone Tree Parkway, Eagle Mountain, Utah.
