Leland Pulley Wimmer, age 98, passed away December 11, 2021, at his home in American Fork, Utah, of causes incident to age.
Leland was born March 7, 1923, in Murray Utah, the second son of George and Hazel Pulley Wimmer. He was raised in American Fork and received his early education in local schools. He graduated from American Fork High School in 1941. After graduation, he served in the U. S. Navy. He earned a bachelor's and master's degree from BYU as well as credentials in counseling and clinical psychology.
Leland married Evelyn Merikofer February 14, 1945, in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS temple August 21, 1946. They were the parents of six children. Together, they served three full-time missions for the church: Baton Rouge Louisiana, 1989; Birmingham England, 1992; and London England, 1994.
Leland served in many leadership positions in the church including Bishopric counselor and high council- man in the American Fork stake for 12 years.
Leland was employed by the Utah school system for 34 years. His career in education began in 1952, teaching fourth and sixth grades at Forbes School. He worked in Alpine School District for 18 years. In 1965, he left the classroom to become an elementary counselor. In 1969, he accepted the position of school psychologist and part-time administrator in the Tooele County School District office. He retired May 1986.
Leland is survived by his son Sheldon and his wife Mary, Alpine; his daughter DoriLynn and her husband Gary Roberts, Lehi; his daughters-in-law Linda and Pat Wimmer as well as 22 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Evelyn, two brothers and their wives: Warren and Joycelyn Ault Wimmer, Eugene and Nona Strong Wimmer; his sons Steven Lee Wimmer, deceased 1946; Darrell Glen Wimmer, deceased 1999; Harold Chris Wimmer, deceased 2005; Raymond Charles Wimmer, deceased 2015; and a great-grandson Branden.
A viewing will be held Wednesday afternoon, December 15, 2021, at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork, from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Family funeral services will be held later.
Internment with military rites will be in the American Fork City Cemetery.
