LaMar (Sandy) Anderson Sandberg
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and servant of the Lord, passed away peacefully at the age of 83.
Sandy was born in Granstville, Utah to Joseph Dewey Sandberg and Myrtle Irene Anderson Sandberg. He was the youngest of one sister De Ona Ajax (Joseph) and three brothers; Mervin (Ruby), Joseph (Eleanor), Farrel (Lucy), all who proceeded him in death. Sandy graduated from Grantsville High School with distinction as valedictorian of his class. He attended BYU and was an avid BYU football fan. Sandy served an honorable mission to Buenos Aires Argentina. He loved the people of Argentina and talked of his mission frequently. His mission was a gift from his family who sacrificed and supported him while he served the Lord.
Sandy married his eternal sweetheart, Shirley Hansen in the Salt Lake Temple in 1957. No two people could ever be so much in love. Sandy was a kind, compassionate and loving husband who even when his health was failing, put his wife's needs first. His family loved him for his example of hard work, service, optimism, humility and selflessness. Sandy loved life and his family to the fullest. He worked in the airline industry and for many years as a Travel Agent. Sandy loved the outdoors. He loved to hunt, fish and spend time in the mountains with his family. He was generous in all things and gave freely of his time and means. He was a master carpenter and loved to keep his yard looking impeccable. He was not a man of the world but was content to serve his Heavenly Father. This brought him peace and happiness. He would always extend his hand to those he came in contact with.
Sandy was a man of faith. He was diligent in his service as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Sandy honored his Priesthood and served on the High Counsel, Counselor in a Bishopric, and as High Priest Group Leader. He even received the Silver Buffalo award after years of dedicated service to the youth in the scouting program. After retirement, Sandy devoted much of his time doing Family History work. He served a second mission as a Family History Consultant at the Utah State Prison. His office was filled with family history group sheets, personal histories, and family trees. Family History was one of his greatest passions and he loved sharing his testimony of it. Even when he required a walker to help him get around, he would always complete his home teaching every month with his wife by his side. It is not uncommon for people to approach his children to let them know how blessed they are to have Sandy as their father. This is a man who was loved and respected by all who knew him.
Sandy is survived by his wife, Shirley Hansen Sandberg; his children: Scott (Sherry), Brian (Rachel), Gary (Lori), and Debra Ohrn (Greg); 10 grandchildren: Josh, (Cassie), Brandon, Michael, Tyler, Kaylee, Baylor, Jasmin, Brianne, Jace, and Garrett and two great grandchildren: Jadyn and Maya.
To his posterity, He leaves his testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ, written with his daily choices of faith in action, love, devotion, service, humility, optimism and selflessness. Sandy lived what he believed and taught everyone who witnessed his life what love truly is.
A special thanks to the friends and staff at the Bel Aire Assisted Living Center in American Fork and A-Plus Home Care & Hospice of Utah County for their dedicated care and service during these past 9 months. We sincerely appreciate your love and compassion. You are the angels that walk among us!
Funeral services will be held at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 E. 100 N. American Fork, on February 18, 2017 at 11:00 am. A viewing will be held 9:45 to 10:45 am prior to services. We encourage those who may have known dad to visit Anderson Mortuary online at www.andersonmortuary.com to leave a memory in the guest book. This will be greatly appreciated by his family. Interment will be in the American Fork City Cemetery.
