Joyce Durrant

Joyce Prescott Durrant – Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and friend silently passed through the veil on August 1, 2021 at the age of 81.  She was born on July 21, 1940 in Kamas, Utah to Fern Orgill Prescott and Darrell Prescott.  The family moved to Heber City, Utah when she was five years old.  Upon high school graduation, she married Burt L. Durrant in the Salt Lake Temple.

A 3-time cancer survivor, Joyce is survived by her children Steve Durrant (Joy), Trish Durrant-Stair (Brad), Julie Jones (Sean), and Michelle Ashby (Ryan).  She was preceded in death by, Bruce Durrant (son), Fern Orgill Prescott (mother), Darrell Prescott (father), and Darlene Boyd, (sister).

She had many part-time jobs until she went to work for the Salt Lake City School District at West High School where she held several different secretary positions during the 27 years there.  She loved working with the teachers and the students and also enjoyed working at the sporting events and evening school activities.

Joyce was known for the love she had for her family and friends and for giving service to others.  Her love and testimony of the Savior was an example to all who knew her.  She spent many hours reading, learning, teaching and sharing the gospel. She held many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during her lifetime.

She enjoyed traveling and has visited every state in the United States, and many different countries throughout the world.  Her most enjoyable activities other than traveling were ballroom and square dancing.

There will be a viewing held in her honor at the Bennion East Stake Center - 5980 S Canal Street, Taylorsville, UT on Monday, August 9th from 6-8 p.m., and on Tuesday, August 10th from 9:45 – 10:45 a.m.  The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 10th at the same location.
