John Harrison Stallings, born on July 1, 1940, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Harry Coburn Stallings and Ruby Isabell Berry Stallings, passed away on April 5, 2024, at the age of 83 in Nephi, Utah.
John was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His first church calling was as the secretary to the Young Men’s Mutual Improvement Association in the Oklahoma City Branch. Later, while living in Idaho and Utah, he served two missions with his wife, Claudia. He was also the Ward Executive Secretary multiple times throughout his life.
He left Oklahoma to attend Brigham Young University (BYU) where he met his future wife, Claudia Lynette Harvey. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering and soon married Claudia for time and all eternity in the Los Angeles Temple. Together they raised five children in Illinois, Oklahoma, Idaho, and Utah.
After graduation, John worked in various capacities in the oil and environmental pollution control industries, employed by different state agencies and as a civilian contractor for the U.S. Air Force at Hill Air Force Base in Utah and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. While working as an Environmental Pollution Control Engineer, he helped on the military's Boeing KC-46A Pegasus refueling and transport aircraft, which was the winner of the U.S. Air Force’s KC-X tanker competition in 2011. Working on the KC-46A project was one of the greatest joys and accomplishments in his life.
John built model rockets. He was an avid gardener with a green thumb and created beautiful flower gardens at each of his homes. He loved buying seasonal flower bulbs for family members. He also enjoyed reading. Whenever he traveled on business, he would explore the gardens, parks, and libraries in that area. John and Claudia loved doing genealogy and would spend hours extensively researching past generations.
John is survived by Claudia L. Harvey; his children, Sherrie Shineé, Tricia (Erik) Prusse, John Berry (Melanie) Stallings, Traci (Jill Ward) Stallings, and Claudia Ryan; thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Ruby; sister, Virginia Hampton; and brother, Harry Coburn Stallings, Jr.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at Anderson & Sons Lone Peak Chapel on April 11, 2024, at 1:00 PM, with a viewing from 11:45 AM-12:45 PM. A graveside service will follow at the Highland City Cemetery, 6200 West 11000 North, Highland, Utah.
