Jessica Ann Sutton brought her fiery spirit to brighten Heaven on July 12, 2017. She was 47 years old when she passed away, and lived a life fully despite many medical challenges.
Jessica was born December 6, 1969 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Utah State Developmental Center in American Fork, Utah became Jessica's home for the last 38 years.
Jessica had many physical challenges, but was determined to be as independent as possible. She loved riding horses and was a Special Olympics athlete. She worked a variety of jobs, most recently making crafts for Cottage Enterprises. Jessica took pride in her work and loved being able to help others and do things herself.
Jessica cared about people. She remembered friends and family her whole life and was always exited to spend time with the people she knew and loved. She also loved making new friends and was never shy about meeting new people. She loved to tease and make people laugh and smile.
Jessica was a great example of choosing to focus on the positive and most important things in life. Though she was confined to a wheelchair for the last few years and did not like losing her ability to walk, Jessica quickly put her energy into doing the things she still could and finding new ways to flourish. She loved swimming, bowling, and going shopping. Most important to Jessica were the relationships she maintained with friends and family, and she particularly loved going to lunch with good friends.
Jessica was known and loved in her family and at the Developmental Center for her strong, vibrant personality and her sense of humor. She will be missed by her family, her roommates past and present, and all those who have been blessed with the opportunity to work with her. We are grateful to the staff at the Utah state Developmental Center for the loving care they provided Jessica throughout her life.
