Janet Rich

March 16, 1949 — November 20, 2015

Janet Lynn Rich, 66, of Temecula, California, formerly Johnstown and Schenectady, New York, passed away November 20, 2015, at Scripps Green Hospital in La Jolla, CA, due to complications from Scleroderma.
Born March 16, 1949, in Philadelphia, PA, Lynn was the eldest of eight children born to Donald Stuart Brereton and Marian Joy Crockett Brereton. Lynn grew up in Schenectady, NY, and graduated from Linton High School. She attended Brigham Young University and graduated with honors with a BS in Mathematics. She later received a Master of Science in Math Education, and taught math for 25 years at Fonda-Fultonville High School.
On December 23, 1969, Lynn and her loving husband, David S. Rich, were married in Schenectady, New York. Their marriage was solemnized one year later in the Salt Lake City, Utah Temple. They were married for 46 years and have four children.
Lynn was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in several areas of the Church: as an organist, pianist, Relief Society president, Young Women's leader, and Primary leader. She was most recently serving as primary pianist in her home ward in Temecula, California. One of her greatest loves was music, and she treasured sharing her talent by playing and teaching the piano. She especially adored accompanying her grandchildren for musical numbers.
She loved being a mother and a grandmother and is survived by her husband David S. Rich, her daughters, Aimee Swanson (Glenn), Christina Taylor (Mark), Genevieve Stein (Jeffery), and her son David Rich Jr. (Melissa). Lynn is also survived by her thirteen grandchildren Ryan, Garrett, Cole, Audrey, Sydney and Carter (Swanson), Kaden, Madalynn, Amelia and Samantha (Taylor), Lilian and Kalyn (Rich) and Landon Stein. Her surviving siblings are her brothers David Brereton, Steve Brereton, Bruce Brereton, and Jim Brereton, and her sisters, Carol Brereton, Donna Wolf, and Jane Brady. She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Brereton, and mother, Marian Brereton.
She will be dearly missed by her family and friends and leaves behind a legacy of strength, perseverance, patience, faith, and Christ-like love. Her smile radiated the love and kindness she felt for those around her. She has touched countless lives with her example of service, unconditional love, perfect mothering, and in being a loving wife. To anyone who has witnessed the marriage of Dave and Lynn, they have seen their example of true and selfless love, a love to which all of us would want to aspire.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday November 28, 2015, at the Bayhill Cedar Hills LDS Chapel, 10351 Bayhill Dr., Cedar Hills, UT 84062.
