Jim Holley

James Cannon Holley 8/8/1939 - 2/6/2025

James (Jim) was born August 8th, 1939 in American Fork, Utah to Harold and Leah (Cannon) Holley. Jim was the oldest of five siblings, Jim, Janet, Anne, Steve, and Mindy. Jim had a wonderful and loving childhood. In 1954, the family moved to Spanish Fork for five years where Jim graduated from High School after playing football, track, and playing trumpet in the band. On June 25th 1959, Jim married his High School sweetheart, Marlene Hales, in the Manti Temple. Jim and Marlene were faithfully married for 64 years until Marlene passed on October 9th, 2023. 

Jim served in the Army Reserves and was called to basic training and jump school in Georgia. Upon returning from his military service, Jim went to work at Holley Auto full time and remained in the automobile industry for 45 years. He was honest and hardworking, and built lasting relationships selling cars. He provided for his family during all the ups and downs in the industry. Jim was civic oriented and served on the City Council and Lions Club. Jim and Marlene moved to Alpine, Utah in 1961, and lived there for nearly 40 years. After living in Fountain Green, Utah, they moved to Lehi, Utah in 2014. Jim and Marlene had seven children, Diane, Marilyn, Kathy, Bradford, Jennie, Russell, and Susan and 25 grandchildren. Loving and caring for his family was Jim's highest priority. Jim was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 1988, and for over 37 years, Jim fought various health issues and valiantly lived with pain and discomfort. 

While in Alpine, Jim served as Bishop of the Alpine 3rd Ward along with numerous other church callings. He loved serving and helping people. Jim enjoyed going deer hunting on North Mountain with his hunting buddies on his trusty horse Paint. He loved pheasant hunting in the west fields of Alpine with his Brittany Spaniel, Sugar. As a boy, Jim spent summers helping his grandpa Farris herd sheep up Hobble Creek Canyon. He loved fishing, especially at Strawberry Reservoir. Jim loved playing cards and games with his family and friends. He practiced woodworking and built wooden toys for his grandkids. He loved gardening and planting flowers every spring. In their later years, Jim and Marlene would spend the cold winter months in Yuma, Arizona where Jim developed a passion for golfing.

Jim is survived by his children:Diane (Matt) Jenkins, Marilyn (Jeff) Patterson, Kathy (Ray) Blouin, Bradford (Kristina) Holley, Jennie (Jeff) Smith, Russ (Paige) Holley, Susan (Wes) Thompson, 25 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, his siblings: Steve Holley, Janet Trotter, and Mindy Warner. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marlene, a grandson Scott Phillips and a sister Anne Michaelson.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 18th at 11:30 AM at the Spanish Fork Cemetery.  A viewing will be held at the Anderson & Sons Mortuary Lone Peak Chapel 6141 W 11000 N, Highland, Utah Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30am.
