In Loving Memory of Hugo Alexis Lucero-Perez
Hugo Alexis Lucero-Perez was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on August 11, 2005, at 11:35 am at the University of Utah. He was the firstborn child, a loving older brother, and the greatest gift his mother ever received. She often said, "Él era el mejor regalo que me haya dado Dios," meaning he was the best gift she could have ever asked for.
As a child, Hugo dreamed of becoming a professional boxer, but he also had a deep love for soccer. His favorite team was Las Chivas, and although he would often joke, "Mama, yo les voy a las Chivas pero son muy malos," his passion for the game was undeniable. Throughout his school years, Hugo attended several institutions, including Mana Academy, Utah Military Academy, Rockwell Charter High, Westlake High School, and graduated from Summit High School in February 2023. His teachers and peers always recognized him as a talented artist, a smart and determined young man with dreams of something bigger. He often spoke about becoming a millionaire and buying his parents a house.
A week before his passing, Hugo had started a welding program at Mountainland Technical College, excited to pursue a new career path. He had great plans for the future, with a determination to make it. Hugo was well-known throughout Utah for his kindness, infectious personality, and ability to make friends wherever he went. His sense of humor and talent for making others laugh were some of his greatest gifts.
One of Hugo's biggest admirers was his 11-year-old cousin, who looked up to him with admiration and affection. Hugo had a unique ability to light up any room with his presence, and his laughter was contagious. His mother's frustration was often his greatest joy, especially when he would tease her by calling her "Maria, Marimba," a nickname she hated but which Hugo knew would always get a reaction.
Hugo had a love for adventure and exploring new places. He would often take the FrontRunner to cities he had never been to, always curious about what the world had to offer. He also had a deep bond with his father, sharing many moments working together on his beloved Audi. The car, despite all its mechanical issues, was a project Hugo was determined to fix, always coming back home covered in oil, filled with hope that he could make it run.
On March 9th, 2025, Hugo passed away, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and inspiration. He will always be remembered for his vibrant spirit, his endless potential, and his deep love for his family and friends.
Rest in peace, Hugo. You will be missed, but never forgotten.
