Helen Hoopes

April 16, 1945 — May 3, 2017

Helen Kae Hoopes was born April 16, 1945, the second child of Henry Warner Hoopes and Elizabeth Simmons Hoopes in New York City, NY.  She lived in Salt Lake City, UT, Pittsburgh, PA, Cincinnati, OH, Boise, Idaho Falls and Blackfoot, ID where she graduated from high School in 1963.  She played the piano and French horn.  She attended Ricks College, graduating in 1965 and BYU graduating in 1967.

She served in the New England States mission.  Boyd K. Packer was her mission president.  After her mission she taught high school English in Snow Flake, AZ.  She later returned to BYU where she received her Master's Degree in Library Science.  Upon completion of her degree, she worked as head of the Learning Resource Center in the David O. McKay building.  Later she worked as a reference librarian at the Harold B. Lee Library, where she loved to serve many individuals.  She bought her home in American Fork, UT in 1976.

She enjoyed singing in the Ward choir, doing genealogy, missionary work, and she served as a Relief Society President.  She loved reading from her vast library and knitting for family.  Shortly after she was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia, it became necessary for her to leave her home.  She had lived in the Abbington Manor in Lehi, UT for the past 2 years.

She passed away peacefully on May 3, 2017. She will be missed, but we take comfort knowing she is with Mom and Dad and free to serve the Lord again.  She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Darwin Thompson.  She is survived by her sisters: Sharon (Richard) Williams of Pingree, ID and Barbara (Mike) Bailey of Lehi, UT, Judy (Bert) Winegar of Centerville, UT, and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
