Gilbert "Gil" Moen

January 9, 1969 — March 9, 2019

Gilbert “Gil” Moen III passed away March 9, 2019 surrounded by his family after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer.  Born January 9, 1969 in Summit, New Jersey the son of Gilbert Moen Jr. and Marolyn Kay Barton.  Gil was the third of eight children and the oldest of five brothers.  Gil attended Ridge High School in Basking Ridge, New Jersey where he loved to play basketball.  His favorite pastimes during childhood included the Jersey Shore, fishing, dirt bikes, go-carts, bow hunting, and hanging with his church and school friends.

After high school, Gil attended Brigham Young University and served a mission in the Dallas-Fort Worth Texas Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  After his mission he returned to BYU and graduated in Manufacturing Engineering.  He took a job in Seymour, Indiana with Seymour Tubing.  After several years he was recruited by Bath Ironworks in Bath, Maine, to work as a project engineer on naval destroyers.  Several years later he took a position with International PaperBox in Salt Lake City, UT and eventually settled in Highland, UT.

It was while Gil was in Maine he reconnected with a friend from college, Melissa Drew.  Gil married Melissa Mary Drew April 27, 2000 in the Salt Lake Temple.  Gil was “the best husband ever!” Gil loved his family and they have been the absolute focus and love of his life.  His favorite past times include family vacations, scouting campouts, trips to the gas station, car shows, “Brothers Night”, and of course dancing with Melissa.

Gil was a classic car enthusiast and loved working on his Chevy with his son.  Many evenings Gil could be found in his garage surrounded by his kids all working on “projects” while he worked on his car.  He also loved serving people by sharing and giving especially if he could do it without the limelight. Gil has always had the greatest sense of humor.  He could make anyone laugh and did.  He was a genuine, loving, caring, serving, faithful, hardworking, happy, husband, father, brother, son, and friend to all.

Survivors include his wife, Melissa; children: Gilbert Moen IV, Grace, Camdyn, and Abbie; his parents, Gil and Marolyn Moen; siblings:  Carrie (Jaye) Mondale, Kay (Wade) Holbrook, Robert Moen, John (Kassie) Moen, James Moen, Logan (Sam) Moen, Kali (Matt) Edwards, and his in-laws, Dan and Delight Sullivan and Russ Scheck.  Funeral services will be held Thursday March 14, 2019 at 11:00 am in the Highland 17th Ward, 5335 West 11200 North, Highland, Utah.  A viewing will be held Wednesday from 6 to 8 pm at the Anderson & Sons Lone Peak Chapel, 6141 West 11000 North, Highland and Thursday at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 am prior to the services.  Burial in the Highland city cemetery.  Please share a memory at andersonmortuary.com

The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the excellent staff at The Huntsman Cancer Institute and to their ward family in the Highland 17th Ward for their daily love and support.  “We could not have faced this challenge without you”.  In lieu of lowers, donations can be made to the GoFundMe for Gil Moen, “Together We are Strong” for the continued support of their children.
