Fred Boyd Kindred, 84, died on March 11, 2021 in his home in American Fork, Utah. He was born on May 18, 1936 to Fred Lewis Kindred and Chloris Hill in Springville, Utah. Growing up in small-town Springville, he worked at sugarbeet fields and orchards. He graduated from Springville High School as a Springville Red Devil before accepting a call to serve a mission.
Boyd served a Southern States mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, which encompassed in Louisiana, Texas, and Mississippi – spending most of his time in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. When he returned home from his mission, he met Darlene on a blind date. The date was especially quiet, speaking very, very few words during the time. A couple weeks later he tried again and invited her to a dance, where they hit it off. He married Darlene Castleton on April 22, 1960 in the Salt Lake City temple. Shortly after the wedding, while living in Salt Lake, the kids started coming. Ann and Judy were born there in Salt Lake before moving the growing family to Springglen. Then, while Darlene was giving birth to Pat in Price, they moved to Fillmore, where Jim and Craig joined the family. Boyd lived in Fillmore, working as a hardware salesman for Salt Lake Hardware and spending 25 years there, before moving to American Fork in 1992. Over the years he served in countless church callings including serving as a councilor in 3 different bishoprics, ward clerk and he also loved being a Ministering Brother.
He loved being busy, always working in the garden (with his kids, excitedly working beside him), gathering wood in the mountains (with the same kids, always eager to help), hunting (they actually wanted to do this), fishing (this too), and camping (their favorite). He instilled a culture of hard work and the love of the outdoors in his children. The kids fondly remember the camping trips and vacations that were filled with campfires, shenanigans, and ghost stories with Boyd, Uncle Kent, and Uncle Danny.
He is survived by his five children Ann (Lyle) Harrison of West Jordan UT, Judy (Kam) Frampton of American Fork, UT, Pat (Glen) Foster of Springville, UT, Jim (Sherry) Kindred of St Peters MO and Craig Kindred of Sandy, UT, and his brother Kent (Janice) Kindred Preston, ID. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Boyd was preceded in death by his wife Darlene, his parents, his sister Phyllis (Allen) Danielson and son in law Garth Johnson.
We, the Family, would like to send a special thank you to Joan and Phil Huff for their unwavering friendship, their compassionate care of both Boyd and Darlene, and their thoughtfulness for the whole family. We appreciate you and everything you have done for us for years. Thank you Ray Burgoyne, for providing friendship and companionship to Boyd, he loved talking to you and appreciated you spending time with him. Thank you to John Cannon and family for being Ministering Brothers to Boyd and Darlene, for meeting with them and providing support, in addition to the sacrament and meals.
