Floyd Waldron

October 3, 1950 — August 11, 2020

Floyd Archibald Waldron, longtime resident of Costa Mesa, California, passed away on August 11, 2020 in Provo, Utah at the age of 69. Floyd was born on October 3,1950 in Van Nuys, California. He was the sixth of seven children born to Fred and Ruby Waldron. He has three brothers and three sisters. Floyd loved and respected his parents, and always enjoyed time with his siblings. They all remained good friends through the years - enjoying family time, vacations, and reunions together. Floyd was raised in North Hollywood where he attended school and participated in sports. He was an avid athlete and sports enthusiast throughout his life. He loved football and baseball - a Dodgers, Angels and USC fan! Floyd was a good student, and it was in his drafting classes where he developed his distinct, meticulous penmanship.

After High School, Floyd attended Long Beach State. At age 19, he served a two-year full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in Ireland. When he returned home, he pursued a career in law enforcement. During this time, Floyd was introduced to Karen Faye Martin by his brother Glen. On November 30, 1973, they married for eternity in the Los Angeles Temple. Over a span of 20 years they were blessed with twelve children, all of whom they reared in Southern California.

Floyd was a police officer for the City of Costa Mesa and highly admired by his colleagues and community. Floyd began his career with CMPD in July 1973. During his career, he was promoted to senior police officer and worked Patrol Services and the Traffic Safety Bureau. In Traffic, Floyd held the assignment of traffic investigator for many years where he received many accolades for his outstanding investigative work on several cases. In August 2003, Floyd retired after 30 years of service and became a reserve officer for another ten plus years.

Floyd was dedicated to his wife and family. He balanced work, home & family life, and church & community service. Karen could always count on him to help her at home, and with the kids. He delighted in watching his children spread their wings and develop their talents, and he supported their involvement in church, school, sports and activities. Floyd inspired and guided all of his sons in the achievement of their Eagle Scout Awards. He encouraged his children in athletics, and volunteered and officiated in countless sporting events. He attended and planned special events for his children and grandchildren.Through the years they enjoyed beach days, camping, vacations with cousins and annual family reunions. Together they persevered through many of life’s challenges, always keeping an eternal perspective. Through Karen's multiple battles with cancer, Floyd selflessly cared for her and their children with love and compassion. Sadly, Karen passed away in 2005, and life was not the same. Floyd loved and thoroughly enjoyed his family, always supporting them. His wife and children were his highest priority, and he loved them fiercely throughout his life. To all of them, he truly was their hero.

Floyd served his family and his church faithfully throughout his life. He served in various callings in the church including bishop, young men’s president, scout leader, sunday school and primary teacher.

He loved serving in the temples of the church. For the last several years, he has served in various capacities at the Newport Beach Temple. He has touched lives and blessed many in his service. His commitment to his family, his Heavenly Father and his Savior Jesus Christ helped to create an unbelievable legacy that his children will surely continue.

Floyd was later introduced to Rachelle (“Shelly”) White Martin. They married on June 30, 2010. They balanced family life, staying involved with all of their children and grandchildren. They enjoyed retirement together, traveling, cruising, attending the theater, going to concerts and having adventures. They especially loved their trips to Mexico. Floyd also enjoyed spending time with Shelly’s three children and their spouses, Cliff, Liz (Rob) and Somer (Aaron) - and her 12 grandchildren. Together they supported them and enjoyed family traditions and vacations with them.

Floyd was kind, generous, delightful, loving, dedicated, hard-working and was the perfect gentleman. Although naturally humble and soft-spoken, he was one of the most powerful and impactful teachers through his actions and example. He served his church and community with commitment and joy. He will be dearly missed, and remembered well.

Floyd is survived by his wife of ten years, Shelly, and by his “darling dozen” children: Emily (Darren) Wight, Amber (Greg) Albert, Casey (Tammy) Waldron, Katie (Dave) Naylor, Derek (Katie) Waldron, Brandon (Kim) Waldron, Tyler (Rebecca) Waldron, Jeffrey (Karla) Waldron, Cody (Kellene) Waldron, Autumn (TJ) Lokboj, Brian (Brooke) Waldron, and Jacqueline (Pedro) Chipana. He is survived by his 37 grandchildren and counting. He is also survived by four of his siblings:  Carol Davis, Betty Bundy, Gil Waldron, and Audrey Evans. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Karen, and two of his brothers, Glen Waldron and Chuck Waldron.
