Douglas Goodrich

December 12, 1991 — February 4, 2025

Alpine

Douglas Glenn Goodrich, 33, passed away suddenly on February 4, 2025. Douglas was born in Berkeley, California on December 12, 1991. His early years were spent exploring and adventuring in the hills of Northern California. His love for the outdoors only deepened after moving to Alpine, Utah with his family in 2001. In Utah he grew into an avid outdoorsman, embracing mountain biking, 4-wheeling, rock climbing, trail running, snowboarding, hiking, and even excelling as an all-state contender in tennis.

Doug’s curiosity and passion knew no bounds. Whether he was learning falconry, training dogs, reading classics, mastering culinary arts, earning his Eagle Scout award, playing jazz saxophone and piano, or teaching himself to sing and write music, he approached life with creativity and dedication. His academic pursuits were equally diverse—graduating from Lone Peak High School in 2010 and later studying at BYU and University of Utah, earning a degree in English Literature. Later he dedicated himself to the outdoors where he became a talented rock climber and an accomplished trail runner. He climbed Mount Rainier and many stunning mountains throughout Utah and California with his dad, his brother, Nick, and his scout troops. Doug pushed the limits of both his body and mind, gaining international recognition for his feats in free solo climbing and base jumping. Later he explored the world, hiking through Peru, ice climbing Alpamayo, summitting the iconic Mt. Aconcagua and Ojos del Salado in Argentina and climbing Fitz Roy in Patagonia. He successfully completed over 800 base jumps, chasing the next adventure everywhere he traveled.

Outside of his physical pursuits, Doug had an immense love for life’s simple joys. He was a modern-day Renaissance man. He was an avid reader, a poet, a chef, and a gifted singer-songwriter, he shared his music with anyone who would listen, performing on street corners in Seattle with his guitar, in California parks, in outdoor cafes in Mexico and anywhere he could find a piano. Whether working as a financial fraud specialist, a tennis coach, a ride-share driver, or a cook, Doug made meaningful connections with people wherever he went. He had an extraordinary ability to uplift others and see goodness in everyone he met. He leaves a lasting impact on the hearts of many.

Doug’s life was a beautiful mix of brilliance and challenge. While he lived his life fully, he also suffered from severe mental illnesses that weighed on him heavily. We will never understand the pain and suffering that were his inner daily battles but we find immense comfort in knowing that Doug is now free from pain and at peace in his mind. He will be remembered for his love of adventure, his soft kindness, and his unwavering willingness to help others.

Doug was adored by his family. Douglas is survived by his parents, Gary and Valerie Goodrich; his sisters, Emily Bohman (Logan) and Laura Hogge (Tyler); his brother, Nicholas Goodrich, his eight nieces and nephews; and his grandfather, Glenn Goodrich.
