Donna Marie West Faux, 94, of Murray Utah passed away in her home on July 5, 2023.
Donna was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho on a snowy 10th of January in 1929 to Addie Roberts West and Dr. Walter Raymond West. She lived in Rigby, Idaho until her family moved to Idaho Falls when she was six years old. She attended Eastside Elementary and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1947. She had a happy childhood with her three sisters, Beth, Marge and Babs and brother, Walt, despite the uncertain times of World War II. She attended the University of Utah from 1947-1951. She was a member of the Chi Omega Fraternity and graduated with high honors in Speech.
In June of 1952 she married M. Charles Faux, Jr. in the Idaho Falls Temple. Their first move was to Boston, Massachusetts where Charles attended Harvard Business School. While there, Donna taught at the Boston Guild for Hearing. Donna's first child, Cheri, was born in Boston in 1953. After graduation from Harvard, they moved to Los Angeles where she gave birth to Susan Marie in 1955. John Charles was born in Idaho Falls in 1956 and in 1958 they moved to Orem, Utah where Peter was born in 1959. Five years later they moved to Pittsburgh, PA where Laurie was born in 1964. Later in 1964 they moved back across the country to Corvallis, Oregon. After six years they returned to Utah, happy to be close to family.
Donna helped children at the Granite School District Hartvigson School as a speech therapist. She also worked for H & R Block as a tax return specialist for 25 years. At the age of 59 she began a new career at the University of Utah culminating in Administrative Assistant to the Associate Dean of the Graduate School of Business. In that position she enjoyed working with the young graduate students who came from many countries to study at the U. She retired in 1999 after 10 years.
A faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Donna selflessly served in callings in Relief Society and Sunday School. She especially loved leading the children as Primary chorister and later as Ward Choir director. In 2002 she accepted a calling as a Welfare Missionary to the Kenya Nairobi mission to teach employment skills. She performed a service mission at the LDS Business College as a tutor in English. She served as a hostess at the LDS Conference Center for eight years. In addition to all this, she took her mother, Addie, into her home and cared for her needs for Addie's last five years. Donna's compassion and empathy shone brightly, guiding her as she worked to make a difference in the lives of those around her.
Donna studied, practiced, and became adept at sewing, knitting, baking and canning. She used her creativ-ity to design and create dresses and quilts. She also was a creative writer and performed readings. She was a voracious reader and was president of her book club. Her musical skills and piano playing were imbued with sensitivity and musical expression.
Donna loved hosting annual family gatherings at the West family cabin on Henry's Fork of the Snake River near Mack's Inn in Island Park, Idaho.
Donna is survived by her husband, Charles, and her children: Cheri (David) Stafford, Susan Marie (Steve) Talbot, John Charles Faux, Peter West Faux, and son-in-law David Decker. Her loving legacy lives on through her 18 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. She leaves behind her sister Marge Wilson, brother-in-law Marvin Rallison, and many nieces and nephews; while joining in eternal rest her parents Ray and Addie, her daughter Laurie Faux Decker, grandchild Carrie Decker, and her siblings Walt West, Beth Rallison, and Barbara Larsen.
