Donald "Harry" Matheney

September 7, 1931 — July 14, 2021

Donald Harry (Yuran) Matheney, 89, died July 14th 2021, in Allen, Collin County, Texas.

"Harry" was born September 7th 1931, in Kansas City, Wyandotte, Kansas to Frances Mae Matheney and Paul Michael Yuran. Harry was adopted by his Grandmother Nina Jane (Warfield) Matheney when he was 18 months old.

Harry learned to work at an early age and was on his own at age 16, living at the YMCA. He hiked across the country, a couple of times, as a teenager, seeking work during the summer and returning to Kansas City to attend school at Wyandotte High School and graduated in 1950.

He quickly abandoned his notion of being a confirmed bachelor when he met and married Betty Lois McDaniel, who became his lifelong sweetheart and best friend. They married May 6th 1955, in Kansas City Kansas. Betty graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1957. Harry graduated from the University of Missouri in May 1961. Later he completed several post graduate courses in law.

Even though school was important, family was always most important. He wanted to have a large family and was blessed with 1 daughter and 3 sons by the time he graduated.

Always churchgoers, Harry and Betty's lives made a dramatic change when they joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1963. They sealed their marriage for eternity in the Logan Temple June 10th 1964 and were later blessed with 3 more children. Harry was ordained a 70 in the Melchizedek Priesthood by the Apostle Bruce R McConkie in the October conference the year after he was baptized. As a dedicated missionary, he shared the message of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone he met. After retirement, he and Betty served several missions together. Harry’s membership in the church defined who he was and everything he did. He was perpetually happy, friendly, and willing to faithfully carry out whatever he was asked to do. Harry exemplified gratitude in everything he did and always showed love and kindness to everyone.

Harry was certified as a paralegal and a petroleum landman, spending most of his career as a Right of Way Agent and Landman for several companies, working with legal documents, easements, and anything related to land acquisition. He retired from Coates Field Service in January 2007 after 20 years of service with them.

Harry is survived by his wife Betty; 3 daughters Lu Ann Nichols (Carl), Donna Beth Squires (Rick), Lori Jane Woehl (Mike); and 4 sons Steven Wayne, Mark Richard (Heather), David Lee, Daniel Paul (Darla); plus, grandchildren that total somewhere around one hundred.
