Donald R. Gazaway returned to his Heavenly Father on March 28 surrounded by his wife and children.
Don was born August 5, 1941 to Vivian Juleta Staley and Fred Riley Gazaway in Madera, California. He was raised by his maternal grandparents Olive and Henry Staley and later his Uncle Pete and Aunt Gwen Garren in Sacramento.
Don graduated from La Sierra High School in Carmichael, California in 1959. He then served the next 4 years in the US Air Force in Texas, Mississippi, Virginia and England.
Don married Kathryn Jean Gilbert on October 10, 1964. They were sealed in the Oakland LDS Temple on March 18, 1972 after converting to the Mormon Church.
In 1969 Don graduated from American River College with a degree in Business Administration. He then moved his family to Utah in 1976.
Don was a man of great integrity, honesty kindness and compassion. He had a friendly charismatic personality. Don became an excellent salesman for several food brokers, selling many different food products. He started two businesses, Sunrise Marketing and Canyon Vista Sales.
Don was ordained an Elder in 1972, a Seventy in 1984, and High Priest in 1986. He faithfully served in many church callings. He was an ordinance worker in the Provo and Mount Timpanogos Temples. His most spiritual calling was that of High Counselor in the Highland West Stake. He was a diligent home teacher for 45 years, making many lifelong friends.
Don leaves his loving wife Kathryn and four sons; James (Randi), Steven (Amy), David, Daniel (Julie) and daughter Kristin (Casey) Moore, 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Brenda (Don) Roberts of Arkansas and brother Glenn (Sharon) Garren of Oregon.
The funeral will be Friday, April 1, 2016 11:00 a.m. in Highland 16th Ward 10962 North 6400 West, Highland, under the direction of Anderson & Sons Mortuary. Viewings will be Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Anderson & Sons Lone Peak, 6141 West 11000 North, Highland, UT and Friday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment at Highland Cemetery.
