Dale Buhanan

April 9, 1939 — January 18, 2020

Dale Cox Buhanan—beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to everyone he ever met—passed away peacefully on Jan 18th, 2020 in his home in Eagle Mountain, Utah, surrounded by his loving family. Dale was born on April 9, 1939 to Hyrum Morris and Mary Cox Buhanan, in Cedar City, Utah. He was the first-born son in the family and was later joined by a brother and three sisters.

Even as a child, Dale had a curious mind and a keen intellect. He won a National award from the Erector Sets company for designing and building a working phonograph with his toy Erector Set. His passion for imagining, designing and building was ignited.

He graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was well read, operated as a radio engineer and DJ under the name “Dapper Dale”. His love of radio continued throughout his life as a ham radio operator. It was one of his favorite hobbies.

After graduation he moved to Arizona and then to Florida, where he designed a computer chip that was instrumental in helping rockets make it to the moon! He later returned to Arizona and accepted a position working for Motorola company. Dale became a successful and highly sought after Semi-Conductor engineer and designed microchips, memory boards and other computer chips for major industry companies such as Motorola, Texas Instruments and Honeywell for over 40 years, until his retirement.

He married Cheryl Gilliland and together they raised six sons - Michael, David, Benjamin, Joseph, James, and John Buhanan. They later divorced and after several years Dale met and married Lyuda Yalokha, gaining three daughters with this marriage - Slava Ericson, Mariya Viskovska and Nadiya Zurita.

Throughout his life Dale had a great love for the outdoors. He helped blaze hiking trails in Zion National Park and Cedar Breaks National Monument. He enjoyed boating and water skiing, collecting guns and target shooting. He was an excellent photographer and loved to take pictures of the beautiful scenery that surrounded him. He loved and collected classical music. At the forefront of technology, he always had a great love of computers.

Dale was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and spent a lifetime being active in his faith. He had a profound knowledge of the holy scriptures, and was a well-regarded Gospel Doctrine teacher both in his congregation and in his home. His love for Jesus Christ helped him diligently serve in all his callings and strive to live righteously. He will be remembered for his knowledge and wisdom and will be sorely missed!

Dale was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Paul Buhanan.
He is survived by his loving wife Lyuda and all his sons and daughters and their respective spouses, grandchildren and also his three sisters - Phyllis Topham, Nancy Bauer, and Bonnie Terry.
