Our sweet daughter and sister, Carrie Michelle Decker, passed away unexpectedly early in the morning of Sunday, May 28, 2017. At the time of her passing, we were on a trip at our family cabin in beautiful Island Park, Idaho, a place we hold dear to our hearts. We consider it a miracle that all nine of us were together that Sunday.
Carrie was born on May 21, 2005, the sixth of seven children. She suffered a brain injury at birth and grew up with cerebral palsy. Over the course of her twelve-year life, she endured several surgeries and seizures. But despite many physical trials, Carrie faced life with courage and determination. She was happy. Although she couldn't talk like most people do, her smile was worth a million bucks, and her laugh, a billion.
Carrie recently completed 6th grade at Dan Peterson School in American Fork. She enjoyed riding the school bus, and when she had to miss a day of school, her friends missed her; the classroom wasn't the same without her. After school, she loved to watch Disney movies; Mary Poppins was her favorite. Carrie loved the outdoors, including camping, eating s'mores around the campfire, riding in the backpack on hikes, and picnicking in the mountains. She enjoyed music, participating in the school dance festivals, and singing with her siblings. She liked to make people laugh and was tickled when others got into mischief.
Being around Carrie was peaceful. She taught those around her about the kind of person Christ was, and she had a talent for listening to people. You could often find her at her siblings' sporting events or musical performances, their number one fan. Despite her challenges, Carrie's life had great purpose and she influenced everyone around her for good.
We would like to express our gratitude to those who served Carrie at Dan Peterson School and Primary Children's Hospital, and to many other healthcare professionals that helped her.
Carrie is loved and will be deeply missed by her Dad and Mom - David and Laurie Decker; her brothers and sisters - Hyrum, Camille, Andi, Kurt, Gage, and Ben; and her grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, many other extended family members, and friends.
