On March 27, 2024, surrounded by family, our beloved mom, Carol Dawn Adams Fotheringham, peacefully passed away at the age of 87. Mom was welcomed back to her heavenly home by many angels who had gone before her. Carol was the last to pass on her side and her husband's side of the family.
Carol was born July 10, 1936, in Provo, Utah, to Murn Cloe Mecham Adams and Percy Leroy Adams. She was the youngest of four children: two brothers, Max and Eldean, and one sister, Lois. Carol grew up on a 3-acre farm in Orem, Utah.
At her 15th birthday party, she met a handsome young man, Bert Fotheringham. Bert and Carol dated for approximately a year when Bert received his Army draft notice. They married on September 15, 1952, at the courthouse in Salt Lake City, Utah. Shortly after, Bert left to serve in the Korean War Conflict. Finally, after 2 long years, Bert and Carol were reunited. They purchased a home in American Fork, Utah, where they raised their three children: Kathy, Kay, and Karen. Bert and Carol solemnized their marriage and had their three children sealed to them in the Salt Lake City temple on June 15, 1965.
Carol was a devoted wife and mother, caring for her family was her top priority. She was an excellent cook who rarely followed a recipe. She could create amazing meals with whatever ingredients she had on hand.
Carol crocheted beautiful afghans and baby blankets. She donated the baby blankets to new mothers. She also loved to sew. She sewed her children’s clothing, stuffed animals, pillows, and beautiful Barbie outfits for many years. Her daughters preferred mom’s catalog over store-bought clothing. She bowled on a league and took ceramic classes, enjoying old friends and making new ones.
Carol loved people, she never forgot a name or a face. Her family and friends will always remember her warm and consoling conversations of tenderness and love.
Carol had an incredible work ethic. She worked tirelessly on her family’s farm and various jobs to boost the family's income. She also worked alongside her husband, Bert, at various evening and weekend jobs.
Carol is survived by her children, Kathy Fotheringham and Karen (Robert) Tucker; 10 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Bert E. Fotheringham; son, Kay B. Fotheringham; granddaughter, Shara K. Hall, and her siblings.
The funeral service to celebrate Carol’s remarkable life will be held on May 17, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork, Utah. Carol will be laid to rest in the American Fork Cemetery.
The family would like to express appreciation to Bert and Carol’s friends and neighbors for their kindness and generosity in helping to make their senior years easier.
