Calvin Edward Alleman, 73, unexpectedly passed away at his home in Lehi, Utah on April 5, 2018. He was born March 31, 1945, in Salt Lake City, UT, to Grant Edward and La Ree West Alleman. Calvin married Mary Ilene Ashdown on January 30, 1969, in the Salt Lake Temple. Calvin loved his family and in return he was deeply loved by them.
He is survived by his wife, Ilene; his children, David (Skye) Alleman, Mark (Danielle) Alleman, Jonathan (Tiffany) Alleman, and Michael (Jessett) Alleman; 18 grandchildren; his siblings, Nadine (Gary) Riddle, R. Glen (Nancy) Alleman, Gary (Gillian) Alleman. Preceded in death by his parents and two granddaughters.
Calvin grew up in a loving home in Salt Lake City, UT. Shortly after becoming an Eagle Scout, his family moved to Inglewood, CA, where he graduated from Inglewood High School, class of 1963. He played varsity basketball and participated in A Cappella choir. He lived in Provo, UT while attending Brigham Young University ("BYU"). Following his mission to Santiago, Chile, graduating from BYU, and completing his military service, he returned to Salt Lake City to attend the University of Utah, where he earned his M.B.A. After working in Salt Lake, he lived with his young family in Kirkland, WA, and then moved to Yorba Linda, CA, where he and Ilene enjoyed a full and happy life raising their four boys. After living in Yorba Linda for 34 years, they moved to Lehi, UT in 2015.
Calvin's interest in business and marketing allowed him to enjoy and excel in his professional opportunities with Carnation Company, Kal Kan, M&M Mars, Héagen-Dazs, Relms, and Tek-Collect. He served actively in the United States Army from March of 1970 until December of 1971. He and Ilene lived in Germany from September of 1970 until December of 1971, where he was stationed at a NATO headquarters. Calvin was honorably discharged on March 1, 1976.
Calvin was a huge sports fan. He loved watching the Lakers with his boys. "Chick Hearn, Dad!" He loved baseball, led his little league in home runs multiple years, and has been an avid Angels fan for years. His favorite sports to watch were the sports his boys and grandchildren played: soccer, baseball, basketball, volleyball, dance, gymnastics, etc. He'd travel long distances to support them in their activities.
An active member of the LDS Church, he served faithfully in many callings. He served an honorable, full-time mission in Santiago, Chile. After serving as an Elders Quorum President and a member of the High Council, he was called as the first Bishop of the Kirkland 3rd Ward, Redmond Washington Stake, at the age of 33. While living in Yorba Linda, he served as High Councilor, Bishop of the Yorba Linda 2nd Ward, 1st Counselor of the Placentia, CA Stake Presidency, temple ordinance worker in both the Los Angeles and Newport Beach temples, and High Priest Group Leader. He held many other callings and cherished ministering to others as a home teacher and friend. He loved studying the scriptures, having family prayer, and family councils. He truly loved feeling the promptings of the Spirit and had a gift to recognize those promptings and act on them.
Calvin was patient, kind, loyal, trustworthy, loving, and full of integrity. He had a contagious laugh and a heart-warming, disarming smile. He loved many of the simple things in life - rainy days, handwritten letters and drawings, a beautiful sunrise through the mountain peaks, a bowl of ice cream, and phone calls from family and friends. He told the best "dad" jokes. His testimony of and love for the Savior is engraved on our hearts and he'll always be remembered.
Calvin's grandchildren of his respective children are as follows:
