Avefua Fiso

April 26, 1925 — October 3, 2023

Avefua Fiso, at the age of 98, passed away on October 3, 2023, at his daughter's home in American Fork, Utah. On April 26, 1925, he was born and raised in Fa'a'ala Savai'i, Samoa to his parents, Solomona Fiso and Sefiliga Kiata Tu'ipelehake. In 1952 he immigrated to the US with the help of William Hart. He attended BYU and married his eternal companion, Patricia Burris, in the Logan Utah Temple on June 10, 1955. Avefua & Patricia graduated from BYU. Avefua earned a Master's in Music, and Bachelor's in Education.

Their family resided in Samoa where he served as Principal and Branch President for the Church in Vaiola Savai'i, Samoa. Later he retired as a school teacher in Las Vegas, Nevada after 29 years. Avefua loved to play the ukulele, sing, and perform in many venues throughout the world. He helped many excel through his musical talents. He was the Samoan version of Don Ho. He traveled the world from Germany, Austria, Italy, France, England, the Bahamas, Mexico, the US, and the South Pacific. People adored this wonderful giant of a man. He was sharp as a tack, had a great sense of humor, and was always caught singing hymns throughout the day. He loved the scriptures-especially the Old Testament, he worked in the temple, and fasted every Tuesday. He truly loved the Savior's example. Avefua was very humble and lived a life of service to others. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandpa, great-grandpa and dear friend. He will be missed.

Avefua and Patricia have been blessed with a wonderful family: Glen (Suzanne), Terry (son-deceased), Aniva (Lloyd) Togisala, Marianne (Robert) Corniea, Paul (Melany), Brian (Cynthia), and Mila (adopted). The blessings continued with 24 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and a large extension of family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Fiso; son, Terry Fiso; adopted daughter, Mila Limu; and his parents, Solomona & Sefiliga Fiso. His joy to reunite with his wife, Patricia, will be more than just a picture laying on the pillow next to him at night.
