Altha Lydia Schmidtlein Benson Gandolfo, 83, of American Fork, Utah passed away surrounded by her family June 28, 2019. Born November 14, 1935 in Eureka, Nevada the daughter of Walter Alden Schmidtlein and Lydia Verna Seat. She married Karl G Benson December 28, 1953 in the Logan LDS Temple he preceded her in death November 17, 2013. She later married Ronald Franklin Gandolfo April 11, 2015 in American Fork.
Altha loved arranging flowers and doing needlepoint. She loved visiting with everyone and was known for “adopting grandchildren”. In her youth she played the piano and was a great basketball player.
Survivors include her husband, Ronald; children, Bryce (Colleen) Benson; Gina (David) Lye; step children, Valerie (Jim) Andersen; Sabrina Leddy; Michele (Roger) James; 27 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and a daughter in law Bev Benson. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Karl Benson; a son Chad Benson; her parents and brothers Don and Robert Schmidtlein.
Funeral services will be held Saturday July 6, 2019 at 11:00 am in the Anderson & Sons Mortuary Chapel, 49 East 100 North, Am. Fork. A Viewing will be held Friday from 6 to 8 pm at the mortuary and Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 am prior to the services. Burial will be in the American Fork City cemetery.
